what has summit come to

i have been recieving the summit sport compact catalog, mostly for laughs and stuff. anyway, i saw this in there, and i wondered where summit is going?

it also shows a nice example of "a fool and his money are easly parted"

if you cant read it.....

"JSP's Blade carbon fiber wing delivers great downforce, plus a little added lift thanks to an integrated air slot. the result is unparalled stability at high speeds. made from 100% carbon fiber, the blade weighs just six pounds, cmes with aluminum alloy legs, and has two bolting positions...."

why dont we use stuff like this??? i mean they wouldn't print this if it didn't work right

Well, Summit is actually very smart. I am sure the companies print their own ads and then send it to the magazine companies, like Summit. Now, look at all of the business they can get from these young people and their ri ce rockets! Kids would buy from them just b/c of their name. I know a couple of my friends came up to me recently and said stuff like, "oh, look what Summit carries now, not just for domestics anymore!" They would trust the name, thats all, and Summit is trying to cash in. Pretty smart IMO. True, i don't like the fact that now my catalog now comes with an additional bunch of pages with stuff i really can not use or have a need to look at, but it doesn't bother me that much. Its just business as usual. You know what they say, if you can't beat them, join them! And in this case, its the truth.

That's an awful lot of money to pay for a spoiler that isn't even custom made for your specific car application. Poor saps.

yes it is a very good business idea to do this, but personally i would have hoped that somehow they would have found a better way to write a description for that wing.

i mean with lift, the net downforce goes down.

i don't know, i just thought it was funny

Because its smart business. There is 30x more profit in selling import parts for a plethera of makes and models, and probably 2% of their entire revenue comes from Camaro and Firebird third gen owners.

In the long run of business, it is always about profit, no matter what the mission statement of the company is. Imports are where the profits are right now.

lol, I love it... that wing provides downforce AND lift.

So basically it cancels itself out and does nothing....

and i think they like the lift, maybe makes their car a little lighter gose hand in hand with that 50+ hp NOS sticker

:sillylol: I just love it how they put wings to create downforce on a FWD car!!! So actually it would raise their front end therefore decreasing traction WHY?!?!!

Well, ya gotta look at it like this. While summit is making money on ppl who are building killer street machines and real muscle cars, they may as well take advantage of the idiots of the trade too. I mean, we all like tools, but do the reall smart one go and buy those magic, handy dandy super tools that are "as seen on tv" ? Usually no, cause they are crap. Dont forget, Every A$$ has its seat.

At least Summit was always in the business of selling headers and spoilers and such. Has anyone else noticed that Crutchfield now sells that r i c e r crap? All they've ever done is audio/video, and suddenly they sell clear taillights and shift *****. There has got to be a ton of money in that crap.

Summits come to what it always was, a moneymaking machine. Teens/young adults and the fads that accompany them are always one of the easiest market segments to sell to, I can't blame them for being shameless.

Sport compacts will be with us forever (some are very nicely done) but eventually it will diminish and the next big car craze will come along, what it will be who knows?

Think of it in terms of cabbage patch dolls and the atari 2600 if it makes you feel better..

It's not just Summit, either. They are doing a Honda buildup on Horsepower TV (formerly Hot Rod TV) an the Speed channel. The worst part was they were working on a 70 Chevelle convertible, then moved it out to work on the Honda. WTF?!?!?!

BTW, they hadn't got to the sticker part of the buildup yet.

yea it's horrible they are doing a buget build up. the price is $8,500 including the cost of the car.
why can't they do that with a 3rd gen? it would be perfect.

joe: look mike I just put on this cold air and exaust and I got 9 HP
mike: WOW that is a huge gain from 83HP to 92HP, a gain of over 12%, thats awsome!!!!
joe: next week we put on our stickers and jump 50HP!!!!
