Those who have done the 4th gen dash. ???'s about Guages??????

I have a 155mph guage cluster from a 2000 Firebird. If anyone has done one of these, will I run into a problem with any of the guages or odometer working??

of course you will.........

it isn't a direct bolt up by any means...that is unless you were transplanting the proper engine, computer, harness, sensors, etc.

are you just installing the dash? there are ways to make the guages work properly with stock equipment.

try searching though as youll find your answers quicker.

do you have the dash itself in?

I know Its not a direct bolt in. The dsh is not in yet, haven't gotten all the pieces I need yet. Also I know I am going to need the plug for the back of the new guages.
My problem is that I haven't found any posts here on this site about people installing the 99-2002 Firebird guage cluster which I think are considered digital. I was reading some fourth gen sites and they (the 93-98 firebirds) were even having problems swaping in the newer style guages. I think their problems were with the tach and odometer working properly. Any one have info on that? Thanks.

the problem you run into is that those who have done this don't seem to like to share....

so either a. they are lying or b. they are complete jerks.

try bugging the hell out of fatal88, her husband seems to have done the conversion quite nicely.

i wouldn't mind doing it myself if i know that it could be done and look right; i wouldn't trust myself to fabricate something like that though. what a mess that would be to start and have to go back.

good luck!!

Well Fatal88 used Camaro dashboards and Camaro clusters on both version of his 4th gen interiors (pre and post 98), so if there is something Firebird specific then he probably didnt have to deal with it. To be honest I wasnt aware there was a difference between pre and post 98 firebird clusters. My cluster is a 155 from a 2000 T/A as well so now I am curious about this. I'll do some searching.

So let me get this straight, I may have misread some of the old topics while I have been researching this swap. If you have a mechanical speedo you need this Dakota box for the fourth gen guage to work.

Now for some reason I was thinking my 87 Iroc had a electronic but after rereading again it seems I have a mechanical speedo, Correct? So now I will need the Dakota box or swap to the electronic speedo crap(vss and yellow box) from a thirdgen?

After doing some more searches over at camaroz28.com it seems that the only difference between the early guages (93-97) is that the 98+ has a digital readout for the odometer which doesn't seem to be a problem when swaping from 4th gen to 4th gen. So I guess the only problem the 4thgenners have is with the speedo not working right after a lt1 guage swap to ls1 guage swap. Thanks.
