Grille question

Ive heard of people buying grille kits for civics/ integras and cutting it and sizing it up, then putting it over the stock grilles. You know, the grille covers that look kinda like a gutter guard. I was wondering if anyone has ever tried this, and how you think it would look. I think it might look to "*****", but more opinions would be appreaciated. I want my car to really stand out, but in a mature kind of way. I already have hood scoops and a sunvisor placed slightly ascue. What ya think?

I have actually thought about this several times but i was too fearful of being convicted as a r1cer to try it I know you can buy the grille screen crap at autozone now in several different colors (red on you car might look pretty bitchin) but I haven't priced it, from what I understand you just buy a sheet of it and cut and bend it to fit your applicatiion

if your worried about it looking too r1ced, why did you put the chevrolet sticker at the bottom of the windshield, and why didn't you get a real hood? If your trying to keep it from looking like r1ce, the screen stuff in the grill is the least of your concerns.

Why did you have to go and say that? Ya know what, if you knew two sh**s about cars, you would know that what I have done to my car is nothing like ****. **** is when you have a supra looking spoiler on anything other than a supra; **** is when you have a muffler outlet larger than exhaust piping; **** is when you have ridiculous stickers covering your vechicle; **** is when the car has badging for something it is not, such as VTEC badge on car not such equipped; **** is when the vechicle is lowered by cutting th springs; **** is when you lower your vechicle, you dont use the camber correction kit; **** sounds like someone weedwacking your lawn. Dont ever call my car ****! I take this stuff very seriously. I was just asking if people liked the grille idea or not, you didnt have to be an @$$ and tell me my car looked like ****. My car is all american. If only you knew...

WHOA DOWN BOY!!!!!! Put the gun down and step away from the ledge.

He was just expressing his opinion. You came on a public board and asked for peoples opinion. There is no need to go off the deep end about it. If you dont like his opinion take it with a grain of salt ya know. You have to take the good and the bad. We all dont like negative about our cars but not everyone is going to like it. If you like it who cares, you are the one who drives it. All of those guys with the vtec sickers and big exhaust pipes like it so I say more power to them. I dont like them in fact I hate them but hey whatever floats your boat. RIGHT?

Now to your car. If you do it right it could look good. If you do it do not put it on the outside. Take off your black grill and put the mesh inside the two inlets on the air dam. You could also go with a billet grill. There was a blue rs around me that had a billet grill and some billet wheels that looked really pretty sharp.

What ever you decide good luck.

He didnt ask for his opinion on his car, just the grill idea.

Its too bad people get all "anti ****" on people if they dotn have a thirdgen that fits thier "status quo". If he asked for a persons opinion on his car, and you dont liek it, say you dont like it and be on your way. Thier is absolutly no need to bash someones car.

Cant we all grow up and have a mature discussion of grills?

Back on topic, theirs a cpl of companies that make billet grills for the third gen, i forget who since my cars dotn sport the grills to begin with, but i think kandied91z, ram air z and a few others are, look them up, im sure they can tell you where to find them.

IMO is would take alot of junk to **** out a camaro, vette, chevelle, nova, etc

Think back to the pro street hay days, and pro street today. Look at the cars that runs in the world nat's down in FL. every year. You'll see the BIG sheet metal rear spoilers, cars lower than the "in the weeds" look, BIG hood scoops, etc.

In days gone by think of the gen 2 camaros of the 70's and 80's. The pro street racers and road type racers started the look with the A&A IROC front air dams, the porsche whale tail rear spolier/wings. Yes they needed them parts for downforce, but the look caught on. Go find some car mags from the 70's and 80's and look through them.

The pro street look is making a come back on fast U.S.A cars now, alot of folks is goin back to the jacked up rear, lowered front end, big rear tires, skinny front tires, big front and rear spoilers, etc on older camaros and the likes. My self being one of the many. The project car i'm working on is a 78 trans am pro street drag car. I will have something like the old A&A IROC front spoiler, porshce whaile tail, dual 3'' pipes, tunnel ram with a chrome blower type scoop on it, plus a 3'' tall L-88 hood scoop for the tunnel ram to stick through.

I'm I ricing my trans am out, well in some peoples eyes yeah, in my eyes hell naw, i'm gettin back to the roots of hot rodding, plus its hard to call anything powered by 900 hp and runs high 8's low 9's ****.

I'm I doing stuff like that to my daily driver 88 camaro. Yes and no
I will have a 2.5'' tall vette stinger hood scoop, I may put chrome exhaust tips on my 2.25'' pipes if I can get the pipes to run out the back, I'll re paint the car black, but add red racing stripes, and re build a 350 engine to about 370 hp, back it with a th-400 trans and a 2800 stall. Some might even call that riced out cause of the scoop and racing stripes but I sure don't think it is.

Point to this long story is Guy's get off the raced out b/s. This hobby of ours is great and the reason why its great there is no right or wrong, atleast it use not to be. Now if a person puts anything but a cowl scoop on the hood we have to hear from other people that aint old enough to remember what rodding use to look like and hear them call us the true rodders ricers, or posers, or such...

If it's not your car, don't worry about how it looks. EVERYBODY WANTS SOMETHING DIFF. Just think if all the built cars looked alike how much fun would car shows, cruz ins, etc be.

And remember we, us good old USA car guys is the ones that really started what yall call the "****" look back in the 70's. It looked good on them cars, then the guys now takes what ever mommy gives them and trys to make it look the same way as our old pro street cars, and the companus makes goofy looking parts so that what the import guys buys

I hope I didnt make any body mad, thats just my take on it and my 2 cents

I didn't say that homeboy bashing his car was okay all I am saying is that when you post a pic there is always going to be someone who doesnt like your car and might say too much, and when they do you have to be able to take the critisizm and ignore it. I have watched people flame iroc2nv and flyinlow all the time but they laugh at it and let it roll of their backs because they like their cars and that is really all that matters. The fact is that we are all not going to like everyones taste in cars, but we have to accept the fact that while most people will say I dont like it and move on there will be those people who feel the need to take it too far. If and when they do you cannot let it bug you and get your undies in a bundle.

Now then everyone SMILE!!!!! Keep the mood light and happy world peace and stuff. Lets all dance, dancing makes me happy!!:lala:

I like the way it looks too. It can be done tastefully where it can't even be noticed.

I saw go for it, but it will be kinda hard, i measured it up once and it's kinda difficult to get it to bend with the front end, yet still look good..

Also then comes the problem of keeping it there, I scrapped the idea, but it did look better then the fugly RS grill...

Buy some red colored grill and give it a shot, it's only like $10-15

Oh yea, didn't your car belong to another member here, it's a supercharged TBI right??...

heh, just not my style, i've never understood stickers at the base of windshields, my cowl is a big enough PITA to see over, can't imagine a sticker in the way. And the hood treatment isn't my style at all. Other than that, i think you've got a pretty tight car. Do me a favor though and tell me that when you sold the supercharger to buy 4th gen seats you bought damn nice 4th gen seats. Your dad's and your brother's cars look pretty nice too, has to be nice living around kind of a mini fbody club.

Ok, first, yes, this was my 2nd oldest brother's car before mine, Matt (onebinky). Beforemy brother matt, my dad owned it. Now, I sold the supercharger for the soul purpose that my engine is getting older now (175,000miles) and I dont want to blow it when I have $0 for funds for a new engine. I figured I would sell the supercharger and pay off my brother faster. Im now also selling my weld racing rims. Once I pay him off, Im gonna swap an LT1 in, and buy some really nice billets or drag rims, not sure yet. I never sold the charger for my seats. My brother bought them out of a 2000 v6 camaro, cause the leather seats would look stupid in a car that doesnt have leather int. And yes, I think they look pretty damn nice! I havn't gottin a pic of my console swap yet, but do have a pic of the seats.

OH crap, forgot to explain. That is gutter gaurd. i used the plastic pieces as a template, cut it out with snips, and attached it with the stock screws.
I'm not sure if i really like it, but it at least looks better than the black plastic inserts

I think things got just a little overheated in this thread, personally to otogenisis who put down his hood I think you need to look again that is pretty damn good looking if he molded the scoops to the hood nobody would even think they were stick on scoops unless he told you most of you would be askin him where he got that sweet-a$$ hood at. And as far as the r1cer fight goes, I don't think anyone on this site is a r1cer especially not a guy on a budget lowering his car buy cutting the springs, sure its not the safest or best way of doing it but we have all been there when your young and money is tight you have to do it the cheap way and then go back and do it right later. It's not a r1cer to want your car to look good all show cars r1ce or not have visual modifications (don't get technical with concours cars here) and that is why the win shows, they look good as well as perform good

to all those who put any f-body owners car down shame on you even if its not what you like to see in a car respect it anyway turn you hatred to the 1mport jockeys who dress like backstreet boys and have the wrong idea of whats "Fast and Furious"

yea, see, my brother also lowered his 85 z28 he had by cutting the springs too, That post was specifically for imports. I dont know where you live, but around where i live people are so dumb, a guy who owns a olds Acheiva put a Z24 badge on his car because it goes with his colors he said. I have to put up with **** like that, and nothing was ment against American cars. I just have had enough of ignorant people, even though i may come off as one. No one whould have takin offense to that post anyway, it was something i read off a pic, that thought it was pretty funny, so just cool down! All I wanted to know was how my car would look with a mod. grille, and now I know, so im done in this thread.
BYW, here is the picture I was talking about.

if the scoops were molded, i'd have absolutely no problem with them, interior looks nice, i swear on his site it said he sold the charger for the seats...it was a late night post, and i still can't believe the window decal doesn't get in the way...maybe i just sit lower in the car than everyone else...
