Firebird pop up headlight question??????
Firebird pop up headlight question??????
healights go up and down fine, so main gears are fine. But after the driver side motor closes the headlight, the motor keeps running. It seems to be jumping on the stop. If i push down on the ****, the motor will not keep running. The motor shaft seems to have to much up and down play, is there bushings inside to take up slack, or is there some kind of stop inside the motor.

That is one of two kits I sell that will repair your unit. Both kits have 3 Delrin bushings that replace the gel inserts GM used. You can download the instruction sheet for these kits from the Documentation section of my web site. That will explain the problem and how the kit repairs it.

ya that kit seems right, except for the fact that the headlights in my brothers car DO go UP and DOWN, and the kit says.........
"if the motor is working but he headlights dont GO UP AND DOWN!"

if you get the clicking, it's going up and down, but it's slipping because it's wearing out.
i did mine this weekend, which were like yours, going up and down with lots of clicking (like 4+ seconds). the one was just dust, the other was a greasy goo/dust. the bushings were all it needed.
the bushings don't go along the shaft, they attach the main gear to the shaft in a 3-lobe Y configuration. (holding it down doesn't do anything.)

No the kit only repairs 1987-92 Firebird headlight motors (in addition to the other applications listed). I haven't gotten a sample of the 4th Gen headlight motor to know what it would take to repair those. I do know they use a different unit though.
