hehe cold is bo fun, cold tears up everything and always brings out the bad in everything, thats when cars have problems the most, it affects brakes, charging system, interior, everything, and the snow and ice and salt affects the metal parts, exhaust rots off, panels rot through and/or off

what you need a new pad for ? i have a mint 84 bird pad

I haven't had that problem in Ohio yet and I am sure that it is a little colder here than it is in Tennessee. It is about 15 degrees outside. Too cold to want to do anything and I need to wash my car. It has gone from black to white in the last week and a half.

I feel for ya hwcoll95. The same thing happened to me last weekend. It got down to -7 one night and the next morning I got in my car to find my dash split. My roommate works at Autozone and said that they sell some kind of dash repair stuff for about $10. He used it on his old Camaro and said that it was ok but he could still see the spit in certain light angles. I'll probably give that stuff a try once it warms up a little, because I'm in college and to poor to buy a used dash unless I find one dirt cheap.

The cold weather down south in Mississipi got my mint condition 84 firebird dash that I put on my 86 bird last week too. I went to Walmart and got a vinyl repair kit from Permatex in the automotive paint section that I am going to try soon. It cost around $8.

well i was changing my oil in the cold!! and look behind me to get the plug wrench and i noticed my drivers side rear sway was hanging down a bit, so i further inspected and the bolt was completely loose! so i tired to tighten it and crack their went half of the screw on the ground..

could of been mostly due to rust i dont know! i know that i had to stay out another 30 minutes swapping endlinks..

Well I also live in MN and this has happened to several cars/trucks in the winter that I have owned / worked on. Had a 97' Ram and overnight and 1 door slam the crack got 2 feet longer. My Camaro had a bad windsheild so I made sure to get it replaced before wintertime.

And as cold / winter I HATE IT!! When I got off work the other night at 8:30pm it was -41 with (ws) THAT SUCKS

Alright guys....you scared me the other day. I hadn't looked at my car in 2 weeks because of the cold out. You all know my interior as well....:hail: .....but I went out yesterday, and my fears came to reality. My dashpad, perfect 2 weeks ago (and protected with KIT plastic protectant after every wash) has 2 vertical cracks all the way through it.

I called around and found a storage facility....gonna cost me 85 a month for starage fee. But at least this way nothing else will crack until I move back home in the warm summer.

3.1Eyecandy, did you have a sun visor in your windshield? Or have the car covered up? UltraViolet light has a big effect on our dashes along with changing tempatrues. I keep a sun visor on the inside of my windshield whenever I'm not driving my car. The dash I got was in a werecked IROC with t's that had been left out in the sun and weather for almost a year. Suprizingly the dash was filthy but after soaking in armorall for a week the pad was perfect. Hopefully cold wont get to mine.

My car came from Seattle and has the orginal dash pad. In PERFECT condition. I see people selling "mint" ones that look bad compared to mine. Gotta love that tint!!

yep, the sun-visor stays in the window at all times. In fact, I took it down when I found the cracks

on a side note....I have found a solution. I'm going to get the dash-pad covered in a leather/vinyl with a raised firebird emblem under the center section. That should look nice....and cover those nasty cracks right up . I'll be sure to glue the cracks back together first though.

I remember a while back one of you guys selling a raised cutout of the firebird emblem....lemme know if you still do. I'm looking to buy one.

alright guys....I'm bidding on a new dash pad on ebay. There's another guy named "injunta" that has outbid me (I outbid him). If one of you guys is this "injunta", let me know. No sense in driving the price up. I'll let this one go, if you tell me.
