Wow, thats exactly why I hate driving my car in the winter!! Looks like the cold cracked it. I dont know, maybe an interiour professional can fix it, but you may have to just go to a yard and dish out the cash for a used one in nice condition if you really wanna fix it.

my guess would be a big no, unfortunately you will probably have to replace it... Junkayrds around here get about $30 to $50... for a good one...

My car is in storage now, (below zero in minnesota) kind of makes me want to drive up to my grandmas and bring my dash home and put it in a nice warm place for the rest of the winter, hope nothing happens this year to it, but next year its stataying indoors.

I think what happens is the Suns UV rays dry out the pad, then when it gets cold the pad shrinks, then it splits because it is no longer as "elastic" as it used to be...

yeah i did crack good, but i hate looking at it, oh well. i guess i can live with it. I like skatepunk60's idea of using a cracked on and an un-cracked one for the different seasons.

I checked the local junk yards and NO ONE has any third-gens. I even checked with yards over 60 miles away and NO ONE has ANY. The guys on ebay want $75-100 for a good one, same with the classifieds.

Well i guess you all know what can happen now. if anyone has a dash pad they will sell me for $30-50 let me know, i will keep an eye out on ebay and in the classifieds.

Well guys it happened to me too. It got down to 8 degrees here south of Atlanta this past Thursday night. So I go out and uncover my automatic to crank it up and run it a little while when I saw my otherwise mint dashpad. Man was I pissed. I had just bought one from a guy locally for my 5-speed. Guess I'll have to get back in touch with him and see if he can get me another one. I hate the cold weather.

Sorry to hear about all of your dashes.
TimRS, dash is lookin a little dirty, when was the last time you treated your dash? Theres also another crack forming next to that bolt in the defrost vent.
Cold weather really sucks In just this one week almost 10 peoples dashes have cracked Heres an old pic of my original dash. The bottom left corner was chiped off, there's the most prominent crack going to my speaker. And the defrost vents were badly mangled. Lucky me, I found a perfect dash in a t'boned IROC that had the t's off and the dash was covered in moss and dirt. Let it sit in some armorall for a week and it looked brand new again

Add one of my cars to the list. Its not a third gen, but my wifes beautiful 78 Trans Am now has a 6" long split in it. At least the 3rd gen dashes are under $100. A mint 2nd gen dash is gonna run me about $300!

Something is trying to tell you to move out of Iowa......The cracking dashpad is a gooood sign IT'S TOO DAMN COLD OUTSIDE...........

j/k.....that sucks, just save up for a little while and get a new one since it wouldn't be worth it and most of the products fail after a while.....

Note to self.... next winter store dash pad in basement in plastic bags. There's a heater down there.

I just got the IROC this past fall so the old cracked pad is on it now.

if you want it to look good for cheap, my advice would be to recover it in vinyl. if you want the car to be original, it'll at least look allright until you can afford the new dash.

i'm finishing this project up, when i go home on friday. i had 2 big, long cracks down the middle of the dashpad. with the vinyl overtop you don't even notice them. cost $25 cdn for enough material for the dash and center console.

pics coming this weekend!

My dash cracked, I took it to an interior shop and they did a 'plastic' weld repair, and it looks 100% original. All for about $20....

for all those of you worried about yours cracking, back off the screws in it a little, so it's not clamped down so tight. that'll give it some play to expand/contract.
also, don't start putting armor all on it. we had this discussion somewhere earlier, so i'm not going to re-explain it.

I know the feeling, many of my friends are stuck in the same boat... I go to college locally, live at home, and got myself a 1992 Explorer Eddie Baurer for a winter vehicle.

if you have time and about 60 bux u can just redo the thing in fiberglass, its a lil bit of work, but its not that hard, you can cover it in cloth, get fiberglass resin, then lay some bondo, sand it n paint it however u want it, just a thought...
