Inexpensive automotive paint

I will be repainting my IROC very soon, it is a daily driver, not a show car so i want a paint that will at least duplicate the shine from the factory. I will be going the route of taking all the old paint off, epoxy primer, filler primer, sealer, base coat, clear coat, so 2 stage paint not single state. Right now ICI ValuPro paint seems to be a good choice, but i don't know much about other paint systems, we used the ICI Autocolor 2K system at my old job and that seems like some nice paint. What about the Napa brands of paint, is they anygood and what are the pices on that stuff? Does Dupont make any inexpensive paint? what about BASF RM?

Here is the link for the place where i would get the ValuPro paint from.....

I've used Omni before. I got it at Carquest. I think it is made by PPG. It's more for the amature/novice, like me. I think it gave a pretty good shine. I just used it to repaint the roof and hood on my Jeep, as the pain was blistered on it. It didn't turn out too bad, but any defects were probably more due to my lack of experience.

if i were you, skip the sealer, the epoxy primer will seal the metal, because that is what the epoxy in the primer does, so take the extra money you save by not using the sealer, and by better ppg or dupont. i work at a body shop and we never use "sealer", just the epoxy primer, and for the most part, we use ppg, which is what most manufacturers use from the factory.

thanks
anthony

I used nason, its made by dupont. ITs a 1 stage paint, and all of it only costed me 200.00 I got it at bumper to bumper auto parts.
I like the results I got and it holds up great for a daily driver on dirt and country roads.

I always try to use DuPont, I find it to be the best. Stay away from that RM paint it is not as easy to apply.

as far as quality, the dupont and ppg are comparable, as well as house of kolors.

just as long as it is not the cheap line series of those brands, it will be good.

thanks

Brand is unimportant. PPG, Dupont, Sherwin Williams, Martin Senour, etc. They're basically all the same. A lot of people prefer this or that because they had a catastrophe with brand X, but what they won't admit is that it was usually their fault. All of them give similarly good results.

But, for the difference in price, you're foolish not to use the urethane paint from whatever brand you choose. You've obviously put a lot of time and money into it already, and now you're going to cut corners to save a hundred bucks? Spend that extra money and get the urethane. It is more forgiving when you spray it, it's as durable as paint can get, and it shines like laquer.

All the major manufacturers make good paint; use what you can get the best deal on, or what you're most familiar with spraying. I like Spies-Hecker myself. Just use the WHOLE SYSTEM from one manufacturer; don't use somebody else's clearcoat because its cheaper, etc. You greatly increase the chance of problems when you do that.

Martin Senour is what's on my car. From Napa I think--it was quite a while ago. No problems with the paint. I totally agree, get a 'whole' system from one brand.

well, that comment about the RM stuff, on the contrary, i find it very easy to apply, that is what we use at School, buit i can't afford the whole system, it comes out to over 700 in materials. So i can't afford the high quality paint, and really that is my only cost is the paint, i am doing all the work, from sanding to sparying(in a booth). So paint is rally my biggest expense, that is y i was lookn at ICI ValuPro and also PPG OMNI MBC Acrylic Basecoat. Both of them are like $60 for a gallon of base.
