will a rear hatch from a 91-92z fit on a 86 iroc?

well im upgrading my gfx on my 86 and was wondering if the whole rear hatch (including glass) will bolt up to an 86 iroc. i want to put the highrise wing on there and dont want to have to take my 2" lip off. drill holes and fill the old ones..

the hatch will fit fine, thats one thing that never changed throughout the whole 3rd generation. The only thing your gonna have problems with is making the third brake light work. I'm 90% positive the 9192 light doesn't use the contact patch on the back by the latch to connect...

zupmanZ28, your right about the contact patch. there is none on the 91-92 cars. In order to run the third brake light, aziroc, your gonna have to splice a wire off the tailights and run it up to the light on the hatch. If your car already has a third brake light in the spoiler then just use that wire and make it longer. run the wire under the panels and up the sail panel and across the headliner. There is a spiral cord on the 91-92 cars that houses the wire, hopefully this comes with the hatch you are getting. if not try the dealer or improvize

You'd might also have to deal with swapping the latch hook. If it is a squarish stamped sheet metal hook it isn't compable with the 1982-91 (first design).

The spoiler is also smaller on the 91-92 compared to the 86 and 87. So watch out and measure before buying.

Well actually if you get a rear hatch form a 91-92 RS that has the 3 piece spoiler it is the same as a 82-86 3 piece spoiler. Then in 87-90 GM put the 3rd brake light in the center spoiler so they had to make the 3 piece spoiler bigger to accomadate the new one. And then went back to using the 82-86 3 piece spoiler on the 91-92 RS's since gm put the 3rd brake light in the top of the rear hatch.

He shouldn't have to worry about that since he is using the high rise spoiler though.

I knew but I was stating the proper information for the 3 piece spoiler. YellowDmon, had said that the 91-92 spoiler is smaller than the 86-87.

I didn't mean to come off as saying those exact years. I just know that my 87 spoiler is bigger than the 91 and 92 because someone tried to put one on my car and it is totally mismatched.
