EDIT: MY CAR HAS CANCER... (better?)

I got some cancer up under the rear driver side wheel well. Its about 4 inches longand about 1.5 inches wide. It goes right though in to the car. I was thinking of grinding out the spot to say a 2x5 hole and then using some fiberglass to patch it up. Does this sound like a plan and if some one has a better idea shoot it my way. I thank you and my lady thanks you

Pork

if it looks anything like this hole in my car than you should do it the right way and weld a new pice a sheet metal, fiberglass only will prolong the rust and will eventually get a larger hole. you may have to pay someone to do a small job now. or may more in the long run, unless your planning on selling the car some time soon.

LAMO I thought you meant you had cancer and not the car. Good to hear you dont, but sucks for the Camaro Anyways I would cut out the section and weld in some sheet metal behind the panel and glass in the hole. DONT scare the crap out of us again

My dad has a 63 Impala Super Sport....and...he has a type of "cancer" on the rear quarter....it's not rusted at all...but....it's almost like the metal is checking.....but..it's only on a certain spot of the rear quarter....it's not rusted or anything..it just has like little checks in the metal..and they won't sand out.. We were told to use "self etching vary primer"...it's supposed to etch itself right into the metal.....we will be trying it out....if anyone wan'ts to know how it ends up working.....just ask..

You've never heard of automotive rust referred to as "cancer" or "body cancer"?

Usually its reffered to "my car has cancer" Not I have cancer. When I saw that it scared me cause the way it was said meant that PopaPork had cancer, I wish that disease on nobody.

I read it, and I thought at first that it was an odd way of putting rust on the car, I knew what he was referring to before I opened the thread.

your best bet is to replace the metal if it is a severe as the pic above... If you weld in a section it will never be as sound or last as long as a whole new fender but it helps.

don't drive it in the rain, Snow, puddles, in humid weather, below 40° etc... (YEAH RIGHT!!!)

and I heard people call african americans N*****S , what's your point ? it doesn't make it ok to poke fun of such a serious topic

don't want to make a big deal out of it anyway so whatever , just stating that it's inappropriate , that's all...

Point taken. However, I've never really looked at someone referring to rust as body-cancer offensively... I've always taken it as an analogy. Rust and cancer are very similar in nature and how they work and spread, I'm just saying I don't think the intention was to poke fun at cancer patients....

But anywho. No biggie.

Thanks for the help guys. And I am soooooo sorry if my subject line offended some people. But I've always referred to it, and heard it referred to as Cancer. My mistake for putting in "I". I've changed it now let me drop...minga. The rust is no where as bad as whats pictured above, but enough to make me worry. I'll lookin to getting someone to weld a piece on.... Thanks for the help.

and to include something constructive

anything can be fixed if you throw enough money at it , question is if it's worth it or not...

that one pic above doesn't look all that bad  Luckily we can order sheet metal parts for our cars very easily

if it's a fender or door replace them and repaint , it's cheaper than having someone weld in patch panels or new door skins.

quarter panels are the real pain in the *** as replacing one the right way is around ~$2000 (at least around here).

I guess I get away easy, cuz I wont need new paint. If ya look up under your rear wheel well, that swhere the hole is. It goes right in to the trunk little past the seat belt should mechanism. So no paint needed :0)

if you have GFX I can guarantee you that you have more rust elsewhere, you may not know about it yet , but it's there. And even if you have a base model without gfx look up under the door on the bottom edge of it , I can almost guarantee you have some rust there lol
