I guess what frusted me the most when I crashed my 84 Z28 is that I spent alot of money on the interior. The inside of the car looked better now than when it was bought. I had the trans and rear end gone threw and not to mention a new engine!!! Now it justs sits in the back yard. I guess it would cost more than what the car is worth to fox it and the body shop said even if the did fix it that it would never be the same?

I have had one wreck and i'm 17 and some girl with NO insurance talking on a cell phone ignored a redlight and thought that I could get out of the way in the middle of a turn that I HAD a arrow for, so she just honked her horn and kept on the gas. about the time I saw her she was about 15 foot from me and I had just got into the turn and I gunned it but all it did was spin (quote from my father "your car has to much power" <--- maybe but why couldn't it had been a posi with too much power?) and I got almost out of the way and then she hit me in the right rear qtr panel and mangeled it up from about 3mm under the rear glass (whew!) all the way down to about mid ways on the wheel. I swear she must have been going 60 because the qtr panel is bent in a good foot and the entire end is whop sided a little bit and the rear end, sway bar, suspension, etc etc on the left side and both control arms was killed. I freaked out if it would have been a guy I would jumped on him annd started throwing punches even if he could have kicked my butt but, I just crunk it back up and pulled into the parking lot closest to me and got out and looked at it and cried and cried and cried and almost had a nervous break down cuz I had spent almost 2 years working at burger king to get it going again (my dad slung a rod through the oil pan) and I had been driving like an idiot having fun all weekend but the one day I decided to not run the light or take any chances I get in a wreck.

So... I bought a 90' iroc for 650 and current'y saving to get the transmission rebuilt and tinkering with it pulling parts from my old camaro and trying to put them on it. I'll post some pictures soem time or another when I can

samdog1232000,

It's all debatable. There is a phrase about if you have the money you can do anything.... When my Camaro was wrecked (check the pics I posted up in this thread).... Everyone told me it will NEVER drive the same (it will pull, or it will have issues with the rear end)... WHATEVER. That car (until the motor blew a bearing) drives BETTER then it ever did after my father replaced the axel.

You're dealing with how bad is it, how much money do you have, how skilled is your repair team.

I admit, when I fixed my Camaro, here's a small break down:
Purchase (in '98) - $1,500
Repair & Paint Job After Wreck - $1,500+
Kelly Blue Book on the Car - $1,500 (if LUCKY)

It has since become a big toy. I have sunk so much money into various repairs it's sickening (including almost completely replacing the interior)... I've learned a HELL of a lot about the 3rd gen Camaro line. Do I plan on making it road worthy again, HELL YEAH!

But some think I'm crazy, and I might agree!

If the car is a daily-driver, you may be out of luck. If it's a hobby car, it may rise again....

I'm not sure the extent of your actual damage.... What may be opprotune for you... Find another Camaro that perhaps needs that interior I think you said that was great in your current one...

I admit, I sound like a mad man, but I never let anyone stand in the way of MY wants.... I wanted the Z28 back on the road and everyone who saw it in it's damaged state crapped when I proved them wrong about fixing it....

My 2 cents... Sorry to sound crazy....

I got in one accident, and it was just after I pretty much finished it. It was in my 84 Z28, and I stopped for a school bus. The girl in back of me didn't. Her Corsica was pretty much fine, but my bumper was pushed in, my driver's side quarter was pushed forward, my door was nearly impossible to open, my hood was stuck shut, and my hatch had a 1" gap on one side, and 0 gap on the other. I had just finished my whole new drivetrain, interior, etc., and to think, bodywork was next!

The Maniac,

I am still not sure what is going to be done with the Z28. It might be fixed and given back to my brother. The Z28 and the RS are both a hobby car and daily driver car so I cannot have them down for to long Since I have been putting money into my 92 RS I dont have the time or money for the Z28. Until I have alot more money or a reason the Z28 will probably just sit. If I can get it fixed for a descent price I might start some body work on it?

I have never actually chrashed a thirdgen but theres been some close calls. When id just bought it i had never driven anything whit a little bit of power on teh backwheels so i soon discovered why you shouldnt put the pedal to the metal when its a rainy day. I did a 360 on the freeway doing almost 60 mph. That scared the **** out of me but now i know better than that.

In my opinion Frank, your bird was the most beautiful 84 Firebird I have ever seen. I love the color of the paint with the wheel and hood combo. Excellent looking bird. Sorry to see that it is wrecked. Any word on getting it fixed?

here in iowa if you dont have insurance, you get a nice hefty ticket of $550.00 You are basically required to have insurance...unless you have $550 to spare everytime you get pulled over or get in an accident.

Thanks Bill for the compliment. I had to get a lawyer involved because the insurance company is a rinky dink company and they don't want to pay up. Hopefully in a month or so.

It's Navy Blue Metallic probably almost the same as midnight blue. When it's dark out or it's in the shade it looks black. Here's a pic in the sun to give you an idea of the color(before it was hit).

man that car is purty! I hope that you can get it rebuilt. If not I'll take it off your hands.

Good luck with it. Its a shame to see it banged up.

this has to be the most depressing thread I have seen in a while. I have nevercrashed my car but I have been rear-ended twice in the past year. The first was by a riced out honad accord, it put 2 cuts in my bumper cover ( i fixed myslef for almost $200) and came to over $4500 worth of damage to his car!! That was just a kid driving too fast for road conditions. The seccond was a kid that had had only been driving for one week and he hit me at a stop sign. This was in a 4x4 s10 and did a little more damage ( tail lights, bumper cover) but to get hit at a stop sign come on! It was perfect weather and in a 25 mph zone, oh well i guess sh*t happens

Once again guys, a whole thread with non-tech issues. Sorry, but I must close it. I do not want to be a **** or anything, but the user agreement states that these boards will be used for "tech only".
