DOOR GAP over 100mph

When I start speeding along past 100mph there is like a gap between my window and the top seal that juss starts happing that is about as wide as my thumb. Slow down to 65 and its gone. Is the door loose? Does this happen to anyone else?

My driver's side window did that at a lot less than 100 mph until I adjusted the window.

Do you have t-tops? If so, it may be like a convertible in that the low pressure moving over the car causes the tops to "pull" up into the air. Or maybe it's causing the window to pull outwards, away from the seal. Try cracking your passenger side window and see if that stops it.

By the way, I just have to ask. Where are you going that you feel you need to drive at 100+mph? Hopefully it's a track. If not, it must be a very very important place for you to risk the lives of yourself, any passengers and everyone else on the road. I don't care if you kill yourself. Doesn't bother me a bit. Knock yourself out - literally. It's when you take your reckless act on public highways that it rankles me. If you were to ever crash into me doing some smack like that I would kill you myself, were I to survive. To make sure your seed doesn't propogate to create more senselessness. Go<x>d forbid you injure my family, for I will make you pay prior to your expiration.

Do I sound a bit angry? I don't mean to. Really. Now, make sure you email me the next time you do this.

HaHaHaHaHaHaHa - You are funny. <wipes tear from eye>

You must have missed the first thing in my post. I'll post it again for you:

Do you have t-tops? If so, it may be like a convertible in that the low pressure moving over the car causes the tops to "pull" up into the air. Or maybe it's causing the window to pull outwards, away from the seal. Try cracking your passenger side window and see if that stops it.

I don't really see the T's pulling if they're glass, maybe if they're lexan. The window I could see being pulled out though.

Smart *** comment? Don't see one. I see a straight up comment beginning with "Hopefully it's a track."

I even put in a smiley face! Maybe I should have said, "people" instead of "you", but I didn't. For your edification, I feel that way about anyone who drives recklessly on public highways.

Now, you'd be completely within your right to call it a smart *** comment if I pasted the first thing in my original post again. You know, just to make sure you saw it.

Do you have t-tops? If so, it may be like a convertible in that the low pressure moving over the car causes the tops to "pull" up into the air. Or maybe it's causing the window to pull outwards, away from the seal. Try cracking your passenger side window and see if that stops it.

Oops.

Speed limit??? WTF IS THAT??? C'mon now guys... 100 is childs play... try 140 or so, 3 lane highway, 3 cras wide, me ahead by a half car length between 2 stangs in my GTA (when it ran)... now if that dont get ya pumped up, nothin will!

Now that, my friends, is the one thing in life better than sex!

BTW: at high speeds, the frames tend to flex if you have t tops... had this happen to me in my old gta... you need frame reinforcements.

I don't have tops, or a convert. Hard Top. scauffiel your tone of voice (even typed) comes across loud. I don't know what your problem is with me, but any respect I had for you is out the window.

The door seals aren't all that tight and I think it is the air pulling on it. It starts around 70mph.

Well I have done 110 on a public road, but it was straight and flat and no cars in sight. I also had no passengers, so it was all on me. I wouldn't do it on a highway, or a heavily populated area, or with passengers. Hell, I probably won't do it again unless its on a track.. it was a pretty good rush.

I find that quite offensive, and pretty ****ed for you to wish a crash, injury, or possibly death on ANYONE... especially your fellow 3rd gen brothers. What kind of a person are you? People like you dont deserve to be on these boards... I have great respect for human life, obviously unlike yourself.

I, for one, race responsibly, making sure not to endanger anyone but myself. I think thats pretty ****ed up for you to say that. People like yourself making stupid remarks like that make me sick.

Sorry for the harsh words everyone, but that comment got me really pissed.

Go on a road trip sometime.. You gotta do 80 just to keep up with traffic. 100 isn't too far past that.

oh man i wont even go there with this speed limit nonsense, but remember at one stage of our lifes we was on tricycles or thereabouts, and we could have gotten squished by some speeding motorist or some other horror, but guess what? if you are here reading this-ya didnt. its all relative, right? when your number is up thats it its up. in my old (1985) car and driver or motor trend magazines i remember reading a review of the 85 iroc one of the testers gripes was that at high speeds the windows would pull away like described above. having never exceeded the posted speed limit myself, i couldnt verify the same symptom. however my evil twin brother when he "borrowed" the car one day without asking-told me that the windows did indeed pull away at over 100 mph and the nerve of him-because my car only has about 25k on it kinda like new and tight still.sorta the nature of the car-try cracking the pass window down a smidge-it helps

Now that, my friends, is the one thing in life better than sex!
You, my friend, are doing it wrong.

I don't know what your problem is with me, but any respect I had for you is out the window.
Well, I... I... I'm crushed. [sob] I don't have any problems with you. But just to be clear, lemme get this straight, I'm advocating being safe, not just with yourself, but with other people on the road; and I'm the @$$hole? I'm the one you lose respect for? Or are you one of those people that has to "hear" things a certain way or you become offended? Sorry, no mamby pamby talk to soothe your poor, itty-bitty-wittle-feelings from me. I gave you some ideas as to what the problem could be if you had T's; I don't keep track of what everyone has top wise. Then I proceeded to tell you of my opinion on racing at 100+ speeds on public highways. All you had to say was, "I'm not on a public highway" and done deal. Now, I would really, really like to hear a discourse from YOU about keeping my opinions to myself, Mister "that's-rice" boy.

anyone who does those kinds of suicidal speeds deserves to crash and die
Uhhh, that's a little over the top, don't ya think? Deserves it?

Now, before I'm taken even more to task for this whole sordid deal, realize that I occasionally street race myself. Occasionally. However, the race is over way before reaching insane speeds - by 50 it's over as far as I'm concerned. By then I can usually tell (and so can he) who the winner is, or I knock it off regardless. Been pretty successful so far. Just one lousy little aftermarket enhanced Rx-7 that spanked me like a red-headed stepchild. I'm not bitter, oh no. Just got to get twin turbo'd. On highways, you're damn near impeding traffic if you're not doing 75, so you keep up with traffic. Things happen very, very fast at speeds over 100 mph.

Every one has to remember one thing Going slow can kill people too. How many times have you been cruising with traffic at around 70 75 and some ******* in the left lane is doint 55. Also guys I know this one highway in the world called the Autobahn and it is probably one of the safer hiways. Its all how a person handles driving at highspeeds. YOU cant be playing with the radio looking out for cops or thinking about ne thing but driving when you do drive at hi speeds. I"ll admit going 145 in my friends 4th gen doesnt feel the safest but if you concentrate and pay attention its ok. And ppl that drive slow are idiots

lol, this is just dumb but I'll post anyways because I'm still buzzing from some drinks I had earlier.
A few facts that might change some of your minds about what you just posted. The Autobahn isn't safe. There is a statistic that has proven higher speeds = less accidents but if there is an accident it's more likely to be fatal. Personally I'd rather drive on a speed limit highway because then my chances of living after an accident is better.
I've gone 100+mph a couple times but I'm past that now. I did it at 2:30am on a straight stretch of road where the only thing on the road would have been a dear. Even now I'll do a sprint late at night (no cars) to test my 0-60 . Anybody think they can stop faster when going 100mph than 60mph, didn't think so. So please, for everyone's sake, don't speed when others might be get harmed. It's like driving drunk, I'd personally kick the **** out of any drunk driver if they got into a car and started it up. I don't want them taking any of my family members away from me nore would I want that to happen to anyone else's family.
It's universal, don't speed unless you're at the track or Autobahn. Only other time might be if you like talking to cops and explaining your speeds.
As for the windows pulling away, that's a problem with our cars. It's the positive pressure build up inside the car and lack of pressure around the windows. Do a search, I think there is some more info in an earlier post.

um, maybe its just my point of view(which could be afu if measured by some) but the man just wanted to know about door glass and instead has found info on a couple of guys who-a)want to kill him, and (or) b)kick the feces out of him imo there is enough of that vibe out in the world already, you know i guess im giving the benefit of the doubt to him first -that common sense is utilized when undertaking such speeds-i mean he belongs here(hes a member) give em some credit there, right? so my thinking is he is smart enough to ask info hes smart enough to drive fast sometimes, so let the guy keep an open mind about posting q's but, as mentioned earlier, it is prolly me thats skewed here and i did not mean to pass judgement or be disrespectful to anyone here. and what can 2 cents get these days anyhow? humbly submitted for your approval.

I've got the same problem. It starts at about 75 for me and gets worse the faster the car goes.

Does anyone have a decent reply to actually combat this problem?

And to all those that get agitated about going over the speed limit and possibly endangering the lives of others, I don't EVER speed when there are A)any cars on the road, B) any passengers in the car, C)any house or possibly populated area around. I would be endangering myself only. I don't like the idea of endangering myself, but the wind coming in from the gap in the window is scarrier than most high speeds.

should have posted, windows pull away from door while at idel.

100+ was just to get some people attention. And there is a nice stretch of highway outside charolettesville that is closed off, its 5 miles and dead ends to a river, its beat up, there are pot hole and gras growing, but after you drive around the gates, its alot of fun to race out there at night. pretty much str8 with only 2 bends, its right between 635 and 632 if you look on a map, its on some older ones, i think they used to have a bypass or something

i had a decent reply for the problem-windows pulling away from the w-strip at high speeds were a problem when they were testing the iroc as a new car in 1985 and it continues to be a "nature of the beast" type of problem today.gotta crack a window a sliver and the symptom gets a little more tolerable-unless there are up stop or foward stop adjustments that have gone out of spec.

certainly, one way or the other, we all do. plus we all seem to think each way we behave ourselves, would apply to the other guy-clearly not the case, if ya want to proceed at a slower pace than "average" (dont have another term) i wont diss you and conversely if you are the type to exceed the "average" you wont hear a peep out of me either. wouldnt change a thing if i typed my as- off people do what they are gonna do till situations warrant a change-welcome to the human race-that is only one way of accepting the world others may deal differently. this was not meant to **** off anybody either-ok? thanx. yes we can all get along.

so you mean to tell me that you are going 100+ mph while fully knowing that there are road harzards ahead? im pretty sure that if you smack a pothole doing 100+ your not going to be here tomorrow to tell us that your windows pull away. You know why they put those gates up at the end of the road, so nobody can drive on it. do you think that the DOT does this stuff for fun, doubt it, there must be a reason why the gates are there.

Hey

The fastest in my car I have to say probley 180-185km/h
Ive done it twice. Once on a 1 lane highway and a 2 lane.
I dont know how fast that is in mph? but it seemed damn fast to me..

took me 2 min. to drive a 6-10min. drive

and on a softer note!
If ur gonna drive a Camaro.
Use it for what it was ment to do.
Or else go buy a honda civic.

ive been tring to avoid this thread, but it seems like it wont go away... yes 3rd gen camaros (firebirds i donno) have a problem with the windows pulling away at high speeds. so crack the pass window if ur gonna do something like that.

99.9% ppl drive fast at least once in there driving life. some of those ppl it takes something to get them to stop driving like that. say having a 18 wheeler doing 55-65 cut u off when ur doing about 95-105 (i was driving a little faster than traffic, but that damn truck shouldntve changed lanes in front of me to the far left lane).

speed kills. period. now if everyone drove the SAME speed, weather it be fast or slow, them there would be ALOT fewer accidents on the road. the autobahn is one of the safest roads in the world. thats mainly cuz traffic is all driving at the SAME speed. but when there is an accident, there is a BIG accident.

remember this. the most dangerous thing anybody ever does is get in a car and drive it down a public road. thats the most likely time something something could happen and u could die.

I have to add...

I agree with the comments above in regards to "Speeding + Reckless Driving = Someone Dying" .... if you act like an idiot behind the wheel you are playing with a loaded gun... it is a matter of time before you take yourself or someone else out.

I have had my IROC at 145 mph... ran it on a 5 mile straight piece of deserted highway. Had to do it and never did it again . It was a rush.

To add to the original question.... my windows never popped

Peace

Your windos need an adjustment, The air rolling off your windshield pulls the side windos out. I ran 110 MPH in Nebraska last year with T-top GTA and did not have that problem. And to fan the flames here, We did 174.9 MPH on radar in Nevada in May 2000. On a public highway, but in a Buick Regal. One note at those speeds, we need about 3/4 mile to whoa, so if an animal pops up in front of you, your done.

insane speeds

Here in MA a few friends of mine and I have gotten an excellent little collection of cars going between us. A '74 and '89 Firebird Formula (both mine , a 2nd gen Rx7, 2 heavily modified dodge stealth TT's/3000 GT VR4s, and some Buttstang. The biggest deal between us is the "land speed record" which is curently held by the Dodge Stealth at 187 mph. I was not in the car when it happened, I was in my '74 alongside it as it shot by, but its amazing what a 500+hp asian car with enourmas scrolling turbos sounds like as it shoots by fast enough that you cna't make out what it was. When we do this we usually wait until 2 am, and have 2 people drive up the highway for about 7 miles and the ncall the other person on the cell phone if there are 1) no cars on the highway and 2) no police anywher enear the area. Its amazing how quickly you get decensitized. 100 really doesn't feel like much (except in the '74, which feels like its about to flip over).

Ok... i got tired of reading the flames and skipped ahead, so excuse me if someone already said this, but as you go faster, the relative presure of the air outside the car becomes less than the air inside. Higher presure inside the car pushes outwards. My guess is your windows are loose (as far as moving left and right in the door) and are not able to counteract the outward presure. Or your just going really fast. Having never driven that fast myself I really have no experience, just a theory, so don't quote me.
