Do a search and you will come up with many answers.Personally I would stick with the hardtop though.

Also ask or PM Fatal88, he did this to his Z, and then converted it to a convertible

But basically what has to be done is this:
Install some Sub Frame Connectors before you do anything.
1. You will need a donor car with a good t'top roof
2. You will need to cut your roof off in easy to locate places, Apillar,Bpillar.
3. Cut the donor cars roof in the exact same spots as you did on your car, try leaving just a little bit extra meat on the donor cars roof.
4. Tack the roof in in a few spots to check for proper alignment, and once you are sure everythings correct then weld in the new roof.
5. Prep and paint and enjoy the results.
Many people will say just go out and buy a t'top car instead of going thru this. Good luck

Someone actually replied to this thread???? My garbage man told me to replace the t-top roof with that of my Iron Duke car. Since the Z leaks like you wouldn't believe. After he left, I rolled my eyes at the idea. Wonder if anyone has ACTUALLY done this conversion on the board?

A few other members have too. Some one did it to thier car way back in 89, or 90.

Yes, you wont believe how easy it is to fix everything right. A friend of mine had niagra falls comming out of his t's. Got new weather stripping, replaced the silicone in the t'bar, installed the new w/s and then adjusted the t's and was finished. Let it all set overnight and then I hosed down the car while he sat inside looking for any leads Dry as a bone in there now.

yeah i couldnt be without t-tops in a thirdgen

i missed them when i had my second car a 1988 formula 350, only reason i bought that is because it was only 2,000 bucks and ran awesome; just needed new a fender and paint.

the roof supports on a 3rd gen are significantly different on a hardtop car vs. a t-top car. it would require cutting the roof panel off and a lot of welding/grinding/fitting to get it to look just right.

on a 4th gen however, all that is required is to cut the roof skin off, add the latch harware and weatherstripping for the tops, and then get a new headliner. a while back there was link to a 4th gen site where a guy actually took a cutting wheel to the roof of his brand new (or close to it) z28. i know i wouldnt have the cojones to do that, even on a 20 year old car.

regarding the 4th gen t-top conversion, a quick search of camaroz28.com turned this up:

http://pages.sprint.ca/Conversion/files/Index.html

looks to be the most in depth writeup for you 4th gen guys, happy cutting!
