Hidden swithces in place of the ashtray

I'm not a smoker, the previous owner of my car was and he did a good job of messing up the cosmetic appearance of the ashtray. Rather than get a new one, i decided to remove the ashtray and integrate a subwoofer control switch, duel fan switch, and neon undercarriage lights switch in there keeping the ashtray lid stock so I can hide the switches. Anyone ever tried this? Opinions?

I put a fan control switch in there, its a good place to hide 'goodies'.

I love that little tray! Ya click open that tab and it slides open all futuristic like, almost like there's a small motor working it...

1) Electric Fan
2) Electric Fuel Pump
3) -unused-
4) N2O arming switch

It's nice to be able to close the lid and have it all hidden..

Cheers,

i'm using the 4thgen t/a console, since i didn't want to cut into the console I'm hiding the switches in the tray. made a templet out of card board and then made the plate out of plx-glass. With the plate made I tinted the bottom with limo tint. Then stuck the light that was originally used in my automatic shifter under the window switches... looks cool at night

When I was out lookin' at IROC's to buy a few years ago, I was looking at one with a fuel button (or something?) in the ashtray. To start the car, you had to turn the key and hold down the button until it started. Neat safety feature. Has anyone else done that?

The subwoofer switch would be for turning on and off my subwoofer amp, just in case I wasn't in the mood for heavy hitting bass.

What size gauges are those in your radio/climate control section?

do you have to take the whole console apart in order to put some switches in there? i wanna put some in this week, but wanna know how hard it's gonna be. and how did you guys mount the switches in there? just put a separate switchbox in?
