I've never seen the point in it unless you have a race car, the back seats weigh what? 20lbs? If that?

yea its a lil' pointless if ur reducing weight.

im always carrying passengers here and there. this is my first step to avoid it racing with 3 passengers doesnt help much

taking out rear seats is like the most pointless weight reduction strategy for a daily driver, how bout some aluminum heads and intake manifold, or lighter rims? metal weighs a lot...not fabric and sponge, or ditch ure gas tank and get a 5 gallon feul cell if u wanna be totally rediculous, (hey it makes more sense than the seat thing)

Man, everyone wants to be all harsh today? Lots more room with the back seats out. And like he said, racing with 3 people sucks! Sucks really bad when you only have a 305 too
Looks clean.

you think thats bad! you should try driving a v6 car with 4 200lb guys, luggage and stereo equipment. not only is it hard to accelerate, but also much harder to brake, lol....after that I never take more than 1 passenger now...

Cool.
Let's face it, the back seat of our cars are only good for small children and amputees anyway!
Less weight=more power.

I dont think its pointless. From a cost effectiveness standpoint its one of the best weight reduction mods you can do ... because its free!!! But seriously when you talk about weight reduction, no single thing you do will make a huge difference. Just remember that all the little things add up. So taking out the seats would be one of the many things you have to do to really loose weight. I think the next best thing from a cost effectiveness standpoint would be the battery relocation kit. Fairly cheap and evens out the weight distribution a little.

I took mine out a few years ago just to get out of hauling people around. These cars would have been 2 seaters if not for insurance purposes.

Hey i took the back seat bottoms out. Left the backs in makes for a great looking flat floor that has great storage and you can hid **** under em for more space and a bit of security. Deffinantly good to keep people from bummin tomany rides. Considering taking the passengers seat out, but what about the women?

You should do whatever you want, bud. I took my rear seats out for a while to see if I'd like it and I did have a lot more room. After a while, though, I thought it looked unfinished, so I put the rear seats back in.

i have to say that i like the looks better when the seats are in... i've debated pulling mine out b/c everybody who gets in the back of my car complains about it... but unless i'm putting something there to cover up the holes (which would no doubt weigh more than the seats), i'm leaving the seats in!

tking all the interior like that would be a good mod but not very comfortable possibly if you had a donut mounted to the floor for some extra padding

im sorry if i seemed harsh man, and ya i did have a bad week, my daily driver "ricestang" died this weekend...antifreeze got throught the head gasket into the oil and that ruined the main bearing...and everything inside the crankcase clanked together, or at least from the sound of it, there was even metal chunks goin out the tailpipe and thick black smoke and oil everywhere, now im pulling the heads on the TA to see if the old lg4 can still run cause it might just have burnt valves and i have new heads for it...anyway sorry for raggin on u, it will help reduce weight, but not much, try replacing steel stuff with aluminum

looks good. I did the same thing. I found that by using 82-88 rear side pieces with 89-92 lower side pieces, removing the mount brackets, and using an aftermarket carpet that doesn't come with cutouts for the seat mounts it looks as if there was never a seat back there. My car is a toy, not a taxi so I don't need a back seat anyways. Cheap way to lower weight. every little bit counts.

i think its a pretty good idea for weight reduction...someone up there had a point...its free and all the little ones add up....i was thinking about it cuz i hate driving people in the back.....i just always have my seat folded down.......someone else had a really really great idea....building a box to fit back there.....wow that would be sweet.....

All you guys are talking as if guys are the only people that ask for rides.........What if a girl asks for a ride?....Sorry, I don't have back seats, hopefully some other guy will give you a ride..........

Anyway, It does reduce weight for free and you can't argue with that.....

Although you might as well get rid of that stupid bar in the middle that held the split seats in, as well as get rid of the seat belts also....

My rear seats came out for stereo equipment I put 2- 12"s, 2-18"s, and 4-10"s in the back of my Z. Not to mention the four amps, three farad capacitor, CD-Changer, and numerous other weight increasers LOL. And I still haven't EVER lost a race around here with my Z. Thats what they get for admiring my stereo through my back window I guess

Dude, you must be a midget who only dates short chicks,if you have enough room to do it back there

The girls usually take one look in the back, and decide to get it on in the front seat, gearshift or not.

nice good idea. any weight savings is a good idea.

i would take my rear seats out and belts also, however they are pretty mint condition and most likely would get messed up somehow out of the car.

yea dude you are exactly right about how it looks. It extends off the deck in the back and my 18's are mounted in the top and my 4 - 10's are mounted in the face firing towards the seats. My 12's are in the very back in the deep well and my amps, capacitor, and etc etc are mounted onto the deck using VERY short screws LOL. I will get the pics ASAP though. Good luck with your competition.
