Can anybody say differently...im sure ive seen some other seatbelts around in the 3rd Gen's....maybe u guys would like to tell me what kinda mod u did to make it work?

Yes you can use a 3 or 4 point harness system. I have seen pics of it on this board.

I have 5 spoint rci harnesses for both front seats, they work, but i dont suggest getting the 4 point.

the 4 pointsdont have anythign to anchor them on the bottom so the belt tends to pull up on you, so youll find the latch sittign in your stomach,w hich is a BIG BIG NO NO for safety reasons.

Not to mention that with harneses, not everyoen is comfortable in them, much harder to get in and with bolt ins, yoouve basically just killed any chance of ever using your back seats (ie no more seat belts back thier. Same goes with roll bar mounted ones. But hey, if you need 16.1 cert, 5 points be the way to go!

Dood x point harnesses are better then stock harnesses.. i dont see ANY reason why a cop would say something about it, because instead of 2 straps you have 5.. theyd probably give you a thumbs up if they saw your car with them installed. just my .02

bump, i wanna know more, people who have them : are they too much of a hassle? i want to get a 4 point or somehting, but are they too much work, for like a girl thats sittin in the pass. seat? Do they take too much time to clip up? And also, are there ones where you can use like a reg belt sometimes? And someone said before that it makes your backseats a bitch to get into or w/e, so hmm....im a newb when it comes to belts ha

So with out a roll bar to mount them to you have to mount them to the floor? That sucks.

The factory 3 point belts were designed, tested and installed by GM to meet defined crash safety standards. Any idiot can buy 5 point restraints off the shelf and install them in a way which is even more likely to cause injury in a crash than the stock belts.

I can't even imagine what a cop would say if he saw that.

"Where you off to, speed racer?"
"Do you think this is a race track?"
etc.

Like Aperiron said, any idiot can toss a 5 point harness in. Not many do it right unfortuntely. And if you get in an accident odds are insurance won't cover injuries.

Yes, inproperly installing harness' is very ussafe. Anytime the the should mount location is further than 90* from the torsoe, you risk compression of the spin in an accident. The long the leads are, the less safe they are also, the harness material has a certain amount of flex designed into them, the longer the shoulder belts are, the more flex there is. There is a reason the NHRA, IHRA, NASA, SCCA, FIA, etc all have very strick rules about harness mounting, in both how and where the harness attaches.

unless you are doing a full roll caged car, and building it one of the sanctioning body's specs, i would do them at all.

Chances are your average body shop isn't going to know jack about racing restraints, and wouldn't touch a liability issue like that with a ten foot pole anyway.

If you need the 5 points for racing, put them in (and do it properly). If it's a street driven car as well, leave the stock belts in, and use them instead when driving on the street. They're a whole lot more comfortable anyway.
