GM Recall for paint?

I'm not sure but, I think there was a recall for paint failure on some GM cars. Was the Camaro one of them? Can a person still bring their car to a dealership to get it fixed? The '92 RS I'm looking to purchase has some paint failure on the rear hatch, and I would rather get it painted for free than pay for it to get done. The rest of the body is mint except for those two spots on the hatch. Any suggestions on how to go about getting it done on GM's dime? Thanks folks.

yes there was a recall it was good for 5 years then after that its a good will thing. you can go to the dealership and talk to them and see if they'll work with you. doesn't hurt to try

Paint peel or delamination has been widespread on 1985-93 models. In 1993 at CAS' request, GM agreed to pay for complete repainting for paint peel or delamination through six years and unlimited mileage. In March 1995, GM secretly cut the policy to 5 years, but if pushed, will honor the 6-year policy and even pays beyond 6 years if sued in small claims court.

Paint: Paint peels due to omission of primer layer; GM extended warranty to 6 years, then reduced it to 5. For more information, go to GM-Paint

i took these from a website this is same thing you'll find everywhere. just go into a search engine and you'll find lost of articles.

I went through that process in 1993 or 1994. My 1991 Formula looked like it had scratches in it, but they were cracks within 2 years and eventually started flaking off down to the primer on the door edge! I brought it to the dealership and they explained there was a recall, blah blah blah. They took my car for a week, gave me a loaner, and fully repainted the car for no charge.

Re: GM Recall for paint?

In 1993, I had my 1988 1 ton dually repainted at the dealers for that exact reason. I had LARGE areas of black showing on my silver truck. I complained loudly to the service manager. He talked to body shop manager and they agreed it had to be re-painted, at no cost to me.

Don't waste your time looking for this now. You're looking at an 18 year old car. GM will not fix the car now. They would say that the cost to repaint is worth more than the car. It shouldn't cost too much to have these areas fixed.

Re: GM Recall for paint?

Again, nothing will happen now. It's not a safety issue so there was a recall termination of 5 years. That has long passed and nobody will honor this on 18+ year old cars. If it was safety related, the recall won't expire.
