Differences on Seats (I know, more seat articles)

I've done a lot of searching, but now I'm even more confused.

What are the original seats in the 3rd generation formula cars? Why do people change them?

What are the seats in my car? Theres black wirtha grey center, dont have a defined headrest, and look like seats out of a ford probe.

What are some of the seats that I see that look like 5.0 mustang seats? There big on bottom and wide?

Which would be the best one to change into my car? I'm confused by all the differences in seats, because some fourth generations are the ones I have and the others are like the 5.0 mustang time. Please help! THanks

I'm not really sure of your exact question--but here's a pic of a Formula seat.

Tonyrodz seats are like the orginals to my formula 89, except mine are/were grey. They are in my storage building now, I have grey leather seats out of a 97 LT1 camaro. The reason I changed them is, I wanted leather it just looks so much better imo, and they are more compfortable, especially with air lumbar and boster support.

Here is a picture of my 4th gen seats, I can't seem to find an interior picture of my car with the orginal ones in them. I'll look some more and post if I find them.

PERFECT. Thats exactly what I needed.

What's in my car I was TOLD were fourth generation seats. However they don't look like those. I like those seats - thats what I want to buy for the bird.

My seats are like a big triangle, 2 tone (black and grey) and it looks like they came out of CAMARO like a 4th generation camaro. Are those seats different? They don't have a defined headrest - it's all one unit.

Where can I buy some Decent 4th gen seats? I'll get them upholstered with leather as well.

well, like most people after months of junkyard hunting I never found any, I finally got these off ebay for 100, I still need to recover them, they are the orginal leather. There are about 4 or so 4th gen seats, the high backs (come 2 or so ways, no moveable headrest). And the ones like mine with smaller headrest. For 3ed gen seats they come so many ways I can't really get started. but check out ebay, or local boneyards. Oh yea, these are just sitting in my car in these picture, I still have to put in my carpet, plan on waiting until I weld in the subframes.

Why you gonna re-cover them? They look good. Any more pics of those seats? Did they come from a 4th gen?

Maybe they are 4th gen camaro seats. They have the integrated head rest, and a lot of them came in 2-tone.

I want to recover, well actually not all of the seats just one back lower and the driver seat. The driver seat has some wear, and one of the back seats have a large cut in them where the owner of the 97 camaro they came out had a CD changer installed in the seat. I also want to make the headrest(dont know if this is possible) a little smaller and with a hole in the center. The headrest on these seats piviot as well as go up and down, I want to make it where it just goes up and down, but hey for 100 bucks I couldn't pass them by. I also need to fix the leaver that alows the seats to tilt forward, UPS I think cracked both of the plastic covers during shipping but hey, its not a big issue I should be able to glue them up without a problem.

As soon as I find a 98 or so center console for a good price, I will have my interior done, well except the sub box in the back, I am going to build a down fire box so the floor is flat in the back. Right now I just have a odd shaped box I built for the 12 I had, but I just replaced the cheap sub with a JL that really hits in the box, but I think I can make it hit better. It will already walk things I put on the T-tops. But I will leave that story to the audio board :-) when I finish it.

Re: Differences on Seats (I know, more seat articles)

Can anyone tell me how to get the defined headrests off? I have an 87 formula and I want to do it without damaging them. The front seats are all I have left to re cover and that is whats holding me up.

Re: Differences on Seats (I know, more seat articles)

If you are speaking of the third gen bird seats, you need to stick a very flat piece of metal or the like down one side of the head rest to push down a tab. It's a very orchestrated maneuver, and not easy to do. Took me half an hour on one of them and 5 mins on another. I think you need to go down the front of the headrest stalk.
