Iroc hood? cut it up?

Hi there. I am going to be painting my 86 Iroc with some sort of Silver color (not sure on the exact paint yet), and I'd like to do something unique with my hood. I have the IROC hood slats, but all the tabs are broken off them, so it won't go back on good.

Sooo... has anyone ever done (or seen) anything with their Iroc hoods? If I some how fab a cowl out of it, I'd rather it not be very tall at all, what other things have been done to existing IROC hoods?

I actualy like the look of the hood with out the slats, and am thinking about filling in the holes, and somehow making the area around the holes become flat (not pushed out around each hole). I might just settle for that.

Thanks!

You could do what i did, i tooke a flat hood, and welded a cowl off of an 67 camaro and did the bodywork. got me a cowl hood for about 150 bucks total.

there was an idea brought up at a local shop i work at to cut the top of hood just enuff for shaker to be installed. it could easily be made to fit using either one off of the second generation fbodies or from buying one of those scoops to fab up a shaker. just an idea tho

Would a shaker even work with a TPI intake setup?

that would maybe work..but would take some fabrication..im sure it can be done but it wouldnt be as practical as with a carb setup cause the scoop is actually bolted around the carb. when u lift up the hood u see the hole. i didnt think about the tpi sorry bout that.

Well, at least it's not an IROC hood I like the cowl idea from a '67. It's not too tall and doesn't make the nose look too big like all the cowls that start from the front of the hood.

there was a bandit II kit that had a shaker scoop in it..IMO it looked like a$$ but thats up to you... a shaker hood could be made functional if you just play around with it.. look at willie's induction for his tpi 305... dont mind that its SC'ed, just look at where the filter is.. if you mounted a shaker above it, it would work great... The new Mach 1's have them... like if anyone gave a cripe...

I put a shaker on my 87 firebird 305 with carb ,it doe's bolt right up to air cleaner but remember there are differant size shakers some lager at the base.
also shaker will not fit facing backwards but it will work perfect as a ram air but rain killed me.
Of course it might work better on a camero because the hood is flatter then a firebird.
