Interior Plastic Restoration...
Interior Plastic Restoration...
Does anyone have any leads and suggestion on what can be used to clean interior plastic. I am looking to get rid of the typical dirt that accumulates over the years from the textured pieces. Is it best maybe repaint them, if so what is really the best method. Is it SEM products or something else. Anyone who has done this and has seen favorable results please let me know about it.
Thanks,
Mark

I washed mine with soap and water, then painted them with the Krylon Fusion paint. I was skeptical at first, but, DAMN:hail: My panels look brand new.

The Krylon Fusion is awesome. It worked very well. It does not chip scratch or crack easily.
I've heard great things about Krylon Fusion and that's what I'm planning to use on my panels. My question is this: What's the best way to repair existing scrapes and scratches in the panels? Is there a way to patch them without it looking like you-know-what? I wonder if there is a way to duplicate the "grain" in the plastic?

Unless the scratches are really deep, I would't worry about it. I had the regular scratches and scuff marks on my kick panels. All I did was wash them and put on a couple layers of paint. Unless the light hits the panel right, you can't tell they're there. The texture is really hard to duplicate, the spray can stuff isn't a real exact match, plus, you'd have to retexture the whole panel. You may want to try wet sanding them a little but that's about it. Once everything is the same color again it's really hard to see the scratches.
do you think it would be easier/better to buy black panels(where could i find them, like new?) or spray my tan ones black, and does anyone have tips on repairing the broken out screw holes on some of my panels.. like what could i use to fix those? i dont think the grain matters in the screw holes, i wouldnt care about that. i just need some info. can i get that krylon fusion paint anywhere?

I know they don't sell it at home depot. I got mine at Kragen, but I think most any autoparts store carries it. I will say that when I repainted mine, I didn't hardly notice a change is the color, so I think it's a pretty good match to the factory black. As far as the screw holes, do you have the parts that broke out? I've glued some of the interior panels back with ABS cement and had pretty good success. The only other thing I can think of is to get some sort of a plastic repair kit and fill the hole and then drill a new one.

i dont have the missing parts.. the part that has the broken holes is the only plastic panel that goes across the roof. it wont stay up with screws but thats what i was thinking, some kind of stuff that dries like plastic.. ill look for it at autozone and oreilly auto parts... and any other car stores i can find around here

So far, I've tried Walmart, and they had a few krylon products.. but not the fusion stuff.. just a few cans of miscellaneous primer or something.
good luck
