Aftermarket Power Window Switches

Anyone have pics of them installed in thier cars? I only can find about 5 different types on the internet. Only one of those switches I like enough to actually put in my car and live with, the others suck real bad.

I am looking for something nice and low profile, made of a brushed aluminum or stainless steel. Regular black plastic would be ok I guess, as long as it looks good. Something backlit would also be a bonus.

<img src="http://www.electric-life.com/preview/images/switches/4910-10-142-large.jpg">
These are the only switches I even remotely like.

I know powermite has aluminum switches in his car. There are a couple at the bottom of this page.

I chose just to go with the standard black with arrows. People already get confused when they get in the car and try to figure out which buttons do what, so I wanted to make this one simple

Yes, the red button opens the door. Yes, I have shave door handles. An no, there isn't a special kit for this, just a regular shaved door handle kit, a $2 button from radio shack, and $0.10 in wire. I hated the factory arm rest, and since I was completely changing the panel, I didn't bother to put back any of the factory stuff at all. I also converted to power windows at the same time. So there is no door handle or lock, and on the driver's side no mirror adjust either.

wait but...excuse me for being ignorant...but how do you open the doors then? doesnt there have to be something that unlatches the doors (like the handle normally does on a non-shaven car)?

Right, that's what the shaved door handle kit does. It's a solenoid that attaches to the latch mechanism. When it's energized, it pulls down on the latch, just like using the handle would. But I used the same kit that everyone else does, it's just that most people leave their interior doors stock. Some people, such as Redraif and Scauffield have shaved exterior door handles and are using the same type of kit. Since I was changing the door panels/door design at the same time, I opted for the pushbutton method. But, I do have to tell people when they get in, "don't push the red button" (which is really fun to say). The sucky thing is that when we get to where we're going, people freak out cause they can't find a door handle. They can't figure out that the big red button might open the door, they have to have a handle.

Yeah, i've seen those switches and I really really hate them.. sorry to say.

I don't like the idea of the switches hanging all out like that. I want something that is compact and has as little of a foot print as possible. They are just way to high for my tastes. What I like about powermite's is that they are flush with the console.

not to make this into a classifieds, but if anyone wants a shave door handle kit, PM me... i think im gunna sell the kit i have...

also, is powermite's car the one with the brushed aluminum interior? I love the look and sleakness of thoes buttons, just not in aluminum... our cars dont fit that look IMO... Id buy thoes switches if they were in black.. but i like the look... if i was gunna by them.. i would have to get a switch for the hatch release too... couldnt have it all odd looking and what not...

That's cool, I value any and all feedback.

The reason I went with that style is to match our nitrous switch panels. (similiar to the NX style panel)

We're working on getting the brushed aluminum, low profile style right now.

I know this post is old but I went looking for the billet switches powermite has, and the cheapest I found for just the 2 switch kit and wiring pigtails for them was $159

i think he has ttops though... so he could always pop the roof off from the inside, then stand on the seat, then sit on the rear arch, and slide out....

total PITA though.

Nope, no T-tops here. I've never had the battery die while I was in the car, and I don't really see that as a problem. (Unless of course MrDude sneaks up on me at a stoplight.) Besides, there are a few other indicators that your battery is about to die on you before it does.

I have, however had the battery die on me while I was out of the car. But, I still have a lock on the hatch, so I just opened it up and connected my battery charger to the wiring for the amps. A few days later the battery totally died and wouldn't take a charge. So...I had to crawl in through the hatch, into the back seat to open the door (the doorpanel was off on the driver's side at the time). Although, once inside it's not that much farther to the hood release. I think the only reason this happened is that the car has been sitting for a while and something got left on. During normal operation, I've never had a problem getting in or out of the car.:lala:

seriously though, the situation that comes to my mind (probly from being a firefighter in the past) is a electrical car fire.

lets just say, the amp wire shorted... it gets hot, and ignites the car along with it insulation... shorting it out more...

going down the road, you cant smell anything because of the wind....

but when the power cuts out, you're screwed... you would have to break a window to get out quick.

not trying to jinx you or anything, im just being the usual PITA im sure you get this alot though...

heck i get it all the time, and i havent even shaved mine yet.... im waiting until i have the needed saftey equip to run with the top down at a NHRA track.. then because its a open car, i dont need door handles...

It seriously beats being asked four million times has anyone ever shaved the door handles on their thirdgen.

I totally agree with you tho on the safety aspect of it. That's why everything is individually fused in my car. If the amp wire shorts, it'll blow the 80 amp fuse on it, while leaving the doors/windows still connected. The power windows are connect to the same power supply as the doors, but have their own inline fuse. Plus, in the event of a major short, there would be a sudden voltage drop, at which point I would stop and get out to see what's happening (and hopefully not watch my car go up in flames.)

My Tranny went out a couple of weeks ago, so right now all that's connected to the battery is the alarm and the door poppers. For now she sits until I can scrape together enough cash for a L98 and a T-56.

I used the switches from a furd contour. Fairly small, low profile, led backlit. I believe they are also used in newer ford trucks (the ones with the power sliding rear window)...
