Speaker panel/cloth sources?

I'm looking for some of the felt-backed cloth that's used on the speaker cover panels on my '84 T/A. Checked the local auto upholstery supplier and while they have the headliner in the correct color they don't have just the cloth itself available, felt-backed or otherwise.....

Anyone out there know of a mail-order source that would have this cloth- or failing that know who sells/reupholsters these panels?

Thanks!

You sorry sack of poo-poo! That's what I was going to say! I found some nice fabric at Wal-Mart last week.

Check Classic Industries. I think they have cloth available for you to recover your stuff. It's the same material to recover the headliner.

Could you just use the same material that is used for the headliner? I am currently in the middle of recovering my headliner, and plan on using the same headliner material from JoAnn fabrics to re-do the speaker covers. Foam backed vs. felt backed, but do not see how it would make a difference.

My sail panels (speaker covers) are covered in the same material as the headliner. Doesn't seem to be a problem and the interior looks totally uniform.

Also, if you have a t-top headliner, you should be able to get enough fabric out of the 't-top area' (the excess from cutting around the T) to redo the sail panels.

Thats the same thing as i did everything matches i even used the headliner material and hand sewed new sun visors. Sewed my own shift boot too they look good once i got all the blood off from stabbing myself in the sun. I cant sew very good.

Finished installing my headliner, and covered the speaker boards with the same material. Looks good, and was easy to install on the sail panels.

One bit of advise here, don't count on this working out. I too thought that I would have enough left from the coutouts, but turned out to be short about an inch. No problem I thought, just go back to JoAnn Fabrics and get a little more. But they had run out of the roll that I had gotten my material from, and the new roll that they had gotten in was a significantly different shade of grey. After 2 hours of driving to 2 other stores, same problem. Luckily one store had a remnant from a previous roll that was nearly the same as what I had. After installing it, the difference is not noticeable unless you are looking for it. So be sure that you buy what you need the first time around!

Anyone know of another place that would have this cloth other than Hawks? If they have it, they won't answer my email about it.....

Although that's a good idea about using the headliner material for the panels, I'd have to wonder though if the foam would muffle the speakers....

Anyway, I've already tried the local JoAnns and Hancocks.... neither come close to matching my headliner......

I have not been able to notice any difference in the sound of the speakers.

I, too, have headliner material on my sail panels and honestly, I can't tell a diff. between the headliner material and the old cloth.

In fact, I just got done installing new sun visors / sail panels / headliner board / headliner on my car yesterday. Got a new ABS t-top board and everything covered in material for $275. Not bad considering the Hawks kit is $250 then about $50 freight.:lala:
