Scared To Get Started
Scared To Get Started
Hey, me and my 86 Firebird ran into some old people that dont know how to drive from Florida. But any way, Minor damage to the front bumper cover and passenger side fender. Or what I hope to be minor damage. Took it to some place, guy said he needed to take off the fender and bumper cover see EXACTLY whats wrong with it, couldnt give me an estimate. I have the parts, OEM replacement parts, should I go ahead and take on the project for my daily driver or should I take it to a place. I dont have much time on my hands due to working too much. So im hoping it will go simple. but like i said from the begining, scared to get started. Hoping you guys can help me out with this.

If you know what your doing a fender and a bumper cover are probably really easy, although ive never done it. I would imagine its fairly straight foward, just a bunch of bolts. Unless you do the passenger fender, then you have the antenna. Have you done work like that before?

Front bumper cover should be pretty easy. I did a front clip for my 84 Z and that was pretty easy, just a bunch of bolts. The hardest part was just getting the bolts in the hard to reach places. Im not sure about the fender though.
sounds easy

calm down its easy i promise. ok first you will need to jack up the car, and take off your front tire. next take out the outer fender guard thing. (that plastic piece that keeps sh*t from the road off the inside of your fender) you should now be able to see the 10mm bolts that hold the fender on. the rest are right on the top of the fender, under the hood. no biggie. as for the bumper cover, i dont remember exactally how that comes off but as i remember it is easier than the fender, which isnt hard at all. so for both pieces your looking at maybe a 3hr job working lesiurly with a beer break or two....

a bird bumper cover must be easier than a camaro. the camaro one took me about 2 hours to take off, then the fender after u get the bumper cover off takes about 10 minutes depending on how fast u can unbolt it. getting the bolts on the bumper cover can be hard if u have a big hand and big arm, some are in tight places.
dude its easy as h3ll i took the bumper cover and fender of my bird in 45 min. of course i do this stuff for a living. but its no biggie like was stated the hardest part is getting to some of the bunper cover bolts.

sorry didnt see you had a bird'. my post was based on the iroc. oh well maybe it will be about the same.
The hardest part of getting the front bumper cover off is the bolts on the side... I had a little bit of trouble reaching the top one closest to the headlight. I recommend a swivel.
the bumper cover is not THAT easy, but it is not hard in a mechanical way....it is just boring a tedious to take off....lots of nuts in the wrong place, and then hope the studs don't break free in the nose.
