What do you guys think.

Im getting this camaro for 80 buck's to get the keys made. I want to know what you guys think about it. Is it worth fixing. Or should I part it out. The only things I see wrong with it is the last time it past emissions was in 99. And the wire harnes is no good at all. Thanks for any input.

Looks do-able.

Is that a dual snorkle air cleaner? Cool. You didn't mention if it runs or not.

What part of the wiring is shot? I'm sure that you can get it from the boneyard if it isn't in a bad place.

Car: Free.
Keys: 80 bones.

Visions of speed and babes: priceless.

The last time it was running was 2000 or 2001. Cant remember. It dident pass emissions so it was put up. Pretty much all the wire in the motor is bad. There all broke or not conected. Is the duel snorkle better? I dont know to much about them. One of the snorkles is bent up. how hard are they to fix. I also get the trailer for free as well.

That one doesn't have a button in the center console hummm... probably just unlocks with the key :/ There wasn't any type of cable pull release, just a button.

You need to fix her up bro. Do you know any more info on the car? What is the vin? If the previous owner kept it stock and it had that dual snorkel air cleaner on there originally it might be an L69. I say instead of parting it out and spending a couple thousand on another car just put a couple thousand into this one

It is a L69. Iv looked at the vin and it has Z28 HO on it. From what you can see how much work does the motor need if you can tell. And how much would the wire harnes cost new of used.

VIN. 1G1AP87G0EL238334

Your best bet if you want to fix it is to just pull the engine, and either rebuild it or replace it with a 350. Buy a new wireing harness, and replace that. For $80 its worth it to all these things if the car isnt rotting away with more rust in it than you can afford to fix.

So fare the only rust i'v seen is on the roof. And a little around round the sides. And it is all surface rust. Nothing bad at all. for the hatch release does it need power?

id be all over that for $80 espically since u get the trailer. it doesnt look to me like its got a hatch release. unless the console was changed out with a differant one. but if it did have a hatch release it would need power

How much money do you have to play around with??? If youre going to end up taking it and then it just sits in your drive way for the next year its a waste of time. If you have the money and the ambition i dont see why you would even need to ask. Everything is up to you and the car looks okay. Are you interested in restoring it to stock or making it better? If you want the car take it it looks nice and do whatever you want.

Ill have a round 1,500 or so at the time being. And I have the time to do with the tools. For the time being I just want to keep it stock. And make it run good and look nice. Maby when I have more money Ill start building it up. How much do you think it would cost if I did pull the motor and replaced all the hoses and the wire. And how much are temp senors. I'm pretty sure the one that is in there now is bad cause there’s one put in the radiator that does not look to good.

Also how much are the passenger side mirror housing? Its got a cut in it.

Parting out a a camaro Is a real evil thaught. trading one in is even worse. Before you even think about turing it over dump that old oil. Have fun. Good luck an nice score.

There is no hatch release, you open the hatch with a key. If you're wondering the lock is hidden under the pull down liscence plate bracket. If you're not going to restore that car to driveable, don't part it out. It sucks to see an almost complete car get parted out. It looks like it's in decent shape though... I'd build it.

You don't NEED to pull the motor to replace the wiring harness. Hoses are always replaced with the motor in anyways. Temp sensors are cheap, but a wiring harness is a little more expensive. Painless Wiring offers complete harnesses for virtually every vehicle. Site is : www.painlessperformance.com.

I say fix her up. I appears that you have a good body to start from, is there something wrong with the roof on the passenger side? It looks like theres a huge dent in the center of the window part on the roof. Might be an illusion i'm seing though.
Check for rust, in the wheel wells under the floorboards and under the ground effects.

I say do it up I hate to see any thirdgen go to waste. I also like the idea that its an 84 and has(by the looks of it) the high output option. Im kinda partial to to the 84s though maybe because I have one heres one of mine for you to take a look at and see your cars potential.

I'm not sure weather or not there is a dent. I cant tell if it's budy putty or the old paint. Where the rust and the paint meet there's about 1/16" diff. Ill get better pics some time this week.

What does the roof look like from the inside of the car? Is it pushed in? Or does it look normal.

You'll need to remove the headliner to see the sheetmetal of the roof. It does look like something fell on there causing a massive dent.

Okay, let's get it off of the trailer and walk this guy through the process of getting it running at the minimum. Then worry about looks a little later. Gonna take a few sanding discs and some elbow grease, but looks like he's half way there.

The bondo putty needs to come off of the roof line to see what you have to deal with but first things first....

Keys made or new ignition switch from Kragen or Autozone.

Does it turn over? Can you start it?

Jim.

how much experience do you have with motor work? the 350 i'm building for the trans am is going on hold because i ran out of money. instead for now, we completely disassembled the 305 (same as yours). we're in the process of cleaning everything up and putting it back together. so far everything is looking pretty good, i've spent about $80 on gaskets and rod bearings. it's amazing how different the motor is coming out just by cleaning it up. we just need to rebuild the carb and replace the distributor (which i already have) and this will be ready to go in this weekend.

I have done motor work befor. I'v never rebuilt one. But I have done a good amount. Plus I got a frind that taking auto tec college. And I have my dad as well. Im more then sure I can get the motor work done. Im relly hoping That all I well need to do is clean it relly well. And replace all the hosing, wirering, belts, and a few other things. I relly would like to stay away from rebuilding it. I'm not sure when Ill be able to start due to a few things.

Can you run the car with out the a/c unit. I was thinking of just taking the a/c unit out. I'm just wondering if there is any reason I would need to leave it in. And maybe put one back in at a latter time.

I think not. You'd need a A/c delete pully, which they dont make for the HOs...
But yah, its a keeper if you got the time

wrong. its a v-belt system there for, u cut the belt off and unbolt the compressor, take all the lines out. remember the system might have pressure, highly doubt it because very few cars still hold there freon at that age, but i thought it was worth mentioning

edit: from what i can see in the pics theres already not a belt on it meaning, 1) the owner figured, welp this dont work anyway main-as-well get some more power and took the belt off 2) the conpressor locked up and the belt broke, 3) the belt just broke out of general wear and tear

i think it might be a replacement engine due to the MASS amout of crimp connectors in the engine bay

still a sweet deal though

When your looking in the engine bay there is a lot of crimps connectors. But when looking at them it looks like it because of lots of broken wire. Some of the crimps are for the temp senors. It looks like he put one in the radiator. Hey just crimp wires. And hard wired it to the battery. How can I check to see if it’s the original motor.

Fix it up...

i started off in the same boat.

First thing when you get it home, grab a bottle of simple green, and two gallon size ziplock bags, cover your distributer and alternator with the bags, and just soak the whole entire engine and engine bay with simple green, then wait about 5 minutes and hose it all off. it so much easier to work on your car, when the motor is somewhat clean. then buy a chilton manual and take a trip to the local parts store and get some new oil, oil filter, air filter, plugs plug wirers, distrubter cap, and a coil. assuming there is nothing internaly wrong with the motor you should be good to go. get that bad boy back on the road.

I wouldnt do something like that unless you do have some fabrication experiance. Doing a hardtop to ttop conversion is NOT for the faint hearted. You need to get the roof off of a Ttop car and cut your hard top roof off and weld on the new one. You can destroy the car during the process. The hardtop roofs are not the same as the ttop roofs. I wish they were cause then it would be cake to do the conversion like the 4th gens are.
Same applies with doing the targa conversion. On the hardtop cars you will need to make all of the nessicary t-top gutters and fit some kind of mounting hardware along with some kind of sub frame connectors to keep the body from colasping in on itsself.

I myself am doing a Targa conversion to a Ttop 82 Z28. And i'm gonna be sweating bricks when I cut out the Tbar. But that comes after I do my floorboards and make the custom frame.
