4th GEN CLUSTER

I am in the process of installing a 98+(LS1) Camaro dash and cluster. I have everything working, but the fuel gauge. Anyone get it working? Kinda important.

just hooked everything up I could, illumination, power feeds, grounds, oil press., temp., voltage, etc. It just worked. mileage is stored in the cluster, so whatever you get it out of that will be your new mileage. hehe. Mine is 43K. just have to get the dakota digital box for the speedo & tach. now.

Supposedly the actual guage itself won't work with thirdgens but theres a way to modify it. Check this thread out for the only way I have ever seen someone get it to work. http://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum1/HTML/023174.html When I ever get aroungd to putting my my 2000 T/A dash in, I will probably just buy an Autometer guage.

I took the fuel gauge unit out of a 98 T/A cluster and one out of a 92 camaro cluster. they have the same mounting points. so it should be pretty simple to swap them. I work at a pretty large Camaro and Firebird salvage yard in OklahomaCity and I will have to check it out towmorrow and see if they have the same sweep area.

Yea Im trying to get Gary to expand more to the net. they have an email for parts request but that only goes so far. Doesnt everyone need a discount there lol. Im getting my 02 dash from there.
It was said on some other postes that the LS1 gauge unit gets a different signal from the computer. as in the thirdgen we get the signal directly from the sending unit. Does anyone know more about this?

Im not sure whats the difference. I just heard that out signal will not register with the 98+ fuel guages. Im 99% sure that a 90-92 fuel gauge unit will work. It mounts up fine and i belive that the sweep area is the same. I think that would be easyer than making a converter. I will already be needing 2 one for the tach one for the speedo.

i would like to know how u got the class 2 serial data to work, as it controls the tachometer, fuel gauge, and coolant temp gauges. how did you splice the wiring into the thirdgen connetors.

My friend just swaped the 00 camaro dash in his IROC. He tryed to use a ls1 cluster but it wouldn't work. You need to use one from a 97 camaro. The ls1 cars have to have some sort of power supply or sumthing? The 97 cluster in his has everything working on it. Adam :-)
