keep in mind that you won't pass tech at a track with no door handles because they're required by the nhra and ihra...ya know, incase you race your cars at all

i know, sucks but while i havent got the rule book, im thinking about just putting in the equipment needed for me to be allowed to run with the top down.... as a open car, i dont even need doors.

i think thats gonna take a 6 or 8pt cage, cuz if i remember right, the nhra rules were recently changed requiring all convertibles/t-tops to have a 4pt cage if it's faster than 14.99 or something like that (it's early, i could be wrong)

theres a diff between a cage and a roll bar.

vert rules have always been stupidly strict. (IMO) the ttop rule is what changed (and changed back??)

http://www.nhra.com/contacts/tech_faq.html

a roll bar is required in any convertible running 13.99 seconds or quicker in the quarter mile, and in other cars beginning at 11.99.

well. right now, when you lift the handle on the outside, it moves a linkage... this linkage releases the latch inside the door.

when you take the handle off the outside, you can hook a lil cable up to where the linkage was... the other end of this cable goes to the silinoid.

when you press the open door button on the remote, it sends a signal to the reciever in the car.... the reciever puts power to the silinoid.

the silinoid pulls on that lil cable... and that releases the latch. how hard it pulls is the rating for that 'noid..... for example you'll find 35lb pull ones... that means it should pull 35lbs of pressure on that cable when you open the door.

now just lifting the door handle doesnt move the door out at all... and without a handle you cant grab it..
door poppers are lil spring loaded "pushers"... when you unlatch the door, they push the door open a couple inches so that you can grab the edge of the door...

does that help?
