My best bone yard find to date
Went looking for some 4th gen leathers today came up empty handed but i did manage to get ahold of a new dash pad. Looked into classic for one when i had the bird and found out they wanted like 525 for it. So i threw a dashmat over it the camaros is busted up real bad but the corner is broken off so i really cant put a dashmat on and make it look good. Found one from a 91 formy in perfect shape for 15 bucks.; THe only thing i'm worried about is the littel upper cut deal for the vents in the middle for the camaro but think it will work its the same year.
The current piece of **** in the camaro now.

Therws just one small crack on the left screw hole where the defroster vent is it cracked when i went to unscrew it but it was also 20 degrees out and snowing so i figure its a little hard. Got it in the basemaent and when it starts warming up i'll put er on. Wow its the second gen spoiler i never got around to molding to the bird. I think i'll just by the ascd one insted of actually doing all the work

Ya know what,
keep the old dash mat and you can practice recovering it in black vynil. Then if you mess up, it's all good cuz you have a good one. Then, if you get it lookin good, you can sell it off and make a profit, or help out another thirdgener.

Nice find, I was at a local boneyard last week and found a 91 firebird with excellent seat belts, both headlight motors (working) and pop-up headlights, nice dash with one small crack, full black trim interior, nice but dirty carpet, nice seats with small tear in pass. seat for $150. Rear hatch with defroster and third brake light and good struts, another $20.00. Someones project car they gave up on. ooooohhhh, gotta hate finds like that. Not!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Haha, beat ya all, nabbed a perfect dashpad for $10. It's in the basement as a spare in case my 17 year old original dashpad ever cracks on me.
But that's okay, you guys don't have to worry, I have more rust on my car than any of you will ever have to deal with

Hmm... I was told that a camaro/firebird dash pads wouldn't interchange... So does it fit?
BTW, my (bastard
) friend picked up a complete TPI setup (intake, plenum, runners, fuel rails, etc) for $75 at a local junkyard... :P

I'm pretty sure it will work havent tried it yet its in the warm basement casue its like 30 degrees and snowing here. Wanted to wait till it warms up so it doesnt crack when i'm installing it. All the mount screw spots seem to be the same the only thing i'm worried about is the center where the vents are on the camaro its cut up a little like to let the air blow up and not get blocked by the dash. Worse case scenario i have a perfect dash pad from a 91 firebird for sale but i'm sure that wont be the case. Have to wait and see

Hey Ward,
I know that I'm not the one you're referring to, however, I mangaged to scarf up on two complete tpi setups from a local junkyard about 6 months ago for $65.00 each. The guy was about to throw them in a scrapper when I drove up. They are out of a 87 & a 88 Iroc.

Uh oh, sorry to rain on your parade. But it wont fit, its to narrow from front to back. At least the TA one i tried to put in my 84 Z28 was. It might work in your i dunno. But from the windshield to the seat distance wasnt enough, and in the middle of the dashpad, it doesnt have the indent for the defroster vents
Luckily you can ebay for more than 15 bucks, anywhere from 50-120.
Luckily you can ebay for more than 15 bucks, anywhere from 50-120. Firebird dash pads will not work in a Camaro because of the center dash vents a Camaro has and the Firebird does not. The Camaro Dash pad has a bump up in the underside to accommodate these vents and that’s why the Firebird dash pad will not slide back far enough in a Camaro. Otherwise the dimensions are the same.

although not really a junkyard find, i still made out like a bandit on this deal.
the guy that owns the tattoo shop that i work at, also owns a car lot/ body shop. i attended a vehicle auction with him one day, and managed to purchase a wrecked 2002 trans-am ws6 for just under $500 after all the shipping and purchasing fees. hello drivetrain and interior swap!!

I think that My best deal has to have been a wrecked 87 T/A that I found at a shop one time. The guy said that the person that owned it decided to not get it fixed, and hadent picked it up and it had been over a year. I got the tpi including harness (sold for 400), the gfx, hatch(friends car was vandalized and he will now be using that rear hatch glass) tail lights(sold for 60 bucks), dash cover(one of my 2 spares that I have got free), a B&M megashifter, and a couple other odds and ends. I paid 200 and he said I could take anything I wanted. I dont think he really expected that I would take everything though. I basically got paid $260 to put a B&M megashifter in my car and have a few spare parts.
Oh, yeah, I also got the gauge cluster and buffer box which I used in my car to convert from the cable driven 85 speedo to the electric 140. By reading the tech article, I figured I was only going to have to wire the speedo, but they turned out to be pinned differently. Luckily my buddy is the electrical guy at a local body shop so I got the diagrams and made a chart of which wires had to go where, and he repinned them in like a half hour. Works great now. I am also using a T56 and SGI 5 box instead of the factory buffer box. I ended up trading my mega shifter for a b&m ripper shifter from the same guy I bought the 6 speed off of.
The funny thing is that I paid about 40 bucks from a junk yard for a dash pad soon after I got the car, but I have since got 2 extras for free. They are up on a shelf in the garage in case I ever nee them.
I also bought a roller 350 block for 50 bucks. It had 2 burnt pistons, but ended up in my brothers car with new rings, bearings, and 2 pistons.
menace88SC, thats awsome, and now I am going to have to start going to auctions. lol. That would be awsome. I have got lucky on some stuff(plenty more than I mentioned I am sure) but I think that takes the cake.
Ben

my best steal was,
2hatch pull down units,
a console lid and pad with good spring and pad,
2 un-cracked door panel tops,
a locked compartment cardboard
2 hatch shocks and 2 hood shocks,
a nice and white dome light cover
some fuses and hex screws and some rear plastic large flat screws
a set of nice front turn park lights
all for 45 bucks (can.) but i had to spend 2hrs in below frezzing temps to remove it all myself. Talk about cold metal in your hands.
ive also snaged some sweet alpine 6x9s for 10bucks (can.) a pair in the local upickit yard

I picked up a TPI setup, harness, ECM, all the sensors, pair of heads, valve covers, fuel lines, distributor, pushrods, intake duct, and a couple of brackets for $150. Sold the ECM for $60, distributor for $25 and the Maf sensor for $50. Basically, I paid $15 so far for everything else, and I am going to end up selling the harness and injectors too.
Funny thing is, I told the guy I was going to be ripping him off before I ripped him off. All I could afford to give him was $150, and he didn't really have a choice. The car was wrecked so it was gonna be junked. Either he junked it with the stuff still in it for $40, or sold me everything, and then still had to junk it for $40.
Hehehe...
