Gauge cluster

ok guys...i had bought a tpi setup from an 87 formula and been tryin to figure out what's different from it and my 84...and i think i've pinpointed it to the cluster...anyone know if the connections were different from the 84 and then the later model clusters (not the 90-92 eletronic driven speedos) but like the 87 cluster for say can anyone help me out with some pictures of the back of an 84 and the back of an 87?

The wiring did change quite a bit throughout the years, and between camaro and firebird models. Here's a schematic of the wiring for behind the dash, but I don't have the pinout. What kind of trouble are you having?

That's odd, maybe he hacked it off. I did a TPI to TBI swap in my GF's camaro, and both cars still used that big square plug. The TPI camaro was an 85, and the TBI bird was a 92. thirdgen keeps resizing my image, so I'll try and find another remote host for it. My current 87 camaro also uses that plug, and I'm pretty sure my dad's 91 TA has it also.

well..the tpi came off an 87 formula...which i think was an eletronic driven speedo...but i dunno if that would change the plug or not that goes in the firewall

If you are talking about an '84 Firebird or T/A... you are pretty much screwed. Pre '85 Firebirds had sort of a unique cluster.

basically, i am trying to find out what i'd need to get my 84 camaro to be able to work with the 87 formula TPI setup i got....the harness doesn't look to be chopped on, tho i am not sure, i remember reading that they started the eletronic driven speedos on firebirds in 87...

Alright, I have a useful sized schematic hosted up on my site. Click the link in my sig, then scroll down to the bottom of my page. You'll see a link with your name in it in big letters. If you click on it, it -should- open up the image in it's full glory

good luck with your problem
