B&M Short Throw Shifter

I just got a B&M Short Throw Shifter for my 88 Formula. I was wondering if anyone has ever shortened the stick on this shifter to make it sit lower in the console. Now, I am not talking about lopping off half of this sucker, just an inch or inch and a half to make it look sportier. I did this to my stock shifter and I really like the way it looks. I hated how high the shift **** sits.

I think its made of Stainless Steel. Is this going to be impossible to cut? Should I just leave well enough alone?

Any comments appreciated.

I would hack the inch or so offa the top, drill a hole in the center, tap it out. Put in a double sided bolt. and just screw ur **** over the top. You could even put a little sleeve under the **** for a more cleaner look. If YOU can't cut the steel, any metal work shop can.

But if your gonna do it, make sure u grab a punch and a hammer, so u can get that hole ligned up

Good luck

I am not worried about putting on the ****. I have an aftermarket on there already, that doesnt screw on. It slips on and is held by a mini set screw.

I know I can pull it off looking good, I am just worried about being able to cut the Stainless Steel.

If the shifter is indeed stainless, the easiest method would be using a chop saw (plasma torch would be the absolute but, chop saws are a little easier to come by).
Using a jig/saber saw with a metal blade (porter cable 18tpi seem to modest with stainless) will work but you have to cut very slooow and keep the blade cool or, it'll just melt the teeth off. Using a hacksaw... well... just leave good enough alone...

I cut mine down with the stock shifter and put a B&M T **** on it. It was easy to cut, but like deadbird said about the B&M, might go through a few jigsaw blades..

deadtrend -

is that the stock, or an aftermarket shifter that you cut down? Also, how much did you cut?

I took about an inch off of my stock shifter, and loved how it looked. Now I have the B&M and I dont want the stock height back!

I have the B&M... hope you don't want to keep it more than a year! Mine is all worn out or loose or something, although I can't find anything to tighten...
