1985-1992 in the third gens. And all fourth gens have it. And it's actually the same basic part.

Thanks. I'd seen both black and gray before. Is it just a matter of the interior color as to which ones will have black?

If you have trouble finding a Firebird T-handle shifter that matches your black interior, then try black shoe polish.

I used it on a Pontiac shift handle that wasn't quite the same shade of black as my Camaro, and it matched up really well.

The Grand Prix also had them too.
I got one from a Grand Prix and put it into my 94 Sunbird.

No, shoe polish works great. Makes the shift handle a nice shiny black. I also use shoe polish on my stearing wheel to keep it black.

I bought a NOS part off of ebay for $30 and was still in the package. It's grey. It is black. Which matches my original. I have a grey interior BTW.

82 and 83 birds had a very basic and actual t-shaped handle, 84-92 got the more rounded leather one.
