How do you take off the ball auto shifter handle?
Hey I've got an '84 z28 parts car outside and I'm trying to get the shifter plate out. Only problem is I can't seem to figure out how to get the shift handle off, it's the round top buttoned kind made of leather, and I didn't see a pin or anything...
any help would be appreciated

You have to press the ball **** down on the shifter lever until you see a C-clip under the round button, remove the C-clip and then pull the ball shifter **** off.

on mine, i just pulled the button out and there was a c-clip in there. mine was the round, non-leather type on my 85 Iroc
Hmm, well that explains why it was so hard to pull off
Any of you know what size c-clip is in there? My GF owns the car now, and if I ever have to pull the console apart again I'd rather put it back together right.

alright I took the button off, and I see a c-clip looking thing in there.... only how am I supposed to get it out? I tried prying on either end of the c with a screwdriver, and some reverse plier things for c-clips, but can't seem to get it off.
Did I just not apply enough force or what? (I tend to not apply too much force as I am constantly breaking stuff when I do try to force hehe)
thanks

You just didn't apply enough force, have patience little grasshopper. Just take a small bladed screwdriver or pick and stick it in the C-clip and pry against the shift lever.
