Does anyone know of any good websites that show you how to do body repair or how to paint your car?

I haven't gotten the video but from what I've been told it's very good. Go to the discussion forum and ask there, they'll help you out.

I'm an auto body and paint & refinish student, and there is a very small chance that you'll do body work or repaint a car and have it not come back to haunt you. The books and videos are very informative, but once you've made a mistake, you've failed and your car will not look good.
Gee Jared, nice first post. FYI lot's of guys do their own body work and are happy with it. Also FYI, lot's of guys do their own body and paint work just because they like to mess with cars. Does it always come out in 'concourse' condition, no. Do factory/body shop vehicles? No.
"but once you've made a mistake, you've failed " - Do you apply that reasoning to everything in life?
Welcome to the boards.

I know alot of body shops do sloppy work, that's alright, but if it's your car, I'm sure you'd want to do it perfect so you never have to look at it again and your done. If you don't know what your doing then don't go near a car body, cause I'll guarantee you you'll notice where you fixed it one way or another. Take it from me, I've screwed up plenty of times and each time I had to redo the job completely. So don't think your weekend spot-jobs will turn out looking unnoticeable. And I don't know about you steve but alot of us strive for perfection and yes factory vehicles do come out perfect, maybe not with a show-car finish but they do.

Well Jared here is your problem you assume that since your a student you can give proper advice. i would bet my money on anyguy on this site that they could do the job as good or better than what your claiming.
the sooner you relize at your young age that it does not take a rocket scientist to paint or repair a car you will have learned a very valuable life lesson.
As for your schooling maybe you can enilghten us all and tell us where you are going to school and how long have you be studing you craft. Maybe just maybe you will be able to give some usefull advice to us in the future.
not so much to flame you but your comments are quite lame and alot of people here will not like it to much. we strive to help each other and share knowledge that we learn by doing and redoing when needed. the longer your here the more you will see that and learn some great stuff when you need the help. you will find it here without being flamed.

New cars are perfect????? What are you smoking???
I work in a Chevrolet dealership, and see plenty of F'ed up cars!!
What about the 2000 era S10 trucks with the nasty striped tailgates where the paint guns stopped?? How about a 3 foot long run in the clearcoat of a new Impala?? Or the Tahoe with the right rear door that you could throw a body hammer through the door gap at the bottom by the dogleg???
No, my friend....new cars are NOT perfect.
AND your comment about body shops doing sloppy work, well, That is true to a certain extent, but the way the public is lawsuit happy nowadays, you'll see a lot less of these hackers in the shops, and more of them behind bars. I personally am proud to be an ASE certified Master body/paint technician....

im getting my car painted at GM and no place else. i could care less how much it costs or how long it takes. they will be able to match it the best i believe. just want to stock white it came with the lame-o stripes arounf the bottom. after dumping 12k and still not done, the paint better be perfect. you realize if its not to your liking you dont have to pay for it till its right, correct?
i dont know what that other guy is talking about. he sounds like one of those depressed goth teens that hangs out at the malls. you realize thats what being a studen it right? making mistakes? your a student ofcorse your not going to get it right everytime....

I thought that last paragraph was pretty funny kontrax, as I sit here trying to kill a bottle... OF COURSE you don't know what I'm talking about!!!!!!! I already told you I do make alot of mistakes ...BUT your forgetting I'm trying to keep you guys from doing that too. alot of people around these boards are all doin their own bodywork and paint and thank *** kontrax your takin yours in. if you don't know what your doin you can really screw things up, all you body techs and painters back me up on that one.
