Aluminum hoods

Does anybody here know where I can get an aluminum hood for my 87 roc? I have spent many hours searching the net with no luck. The stock steel hood is WAY to heavy as are most fiberglass hoods.

I don't think an aluminium hood has been made for our cars. Which would explain your difficulty in finding one.

the only one i can think of is the one on the 91 or 92 firehawk, i know that had an aluminum powerbulge hood, but that doesnt help you any, just get a fiberglass hood.

I would even settle for Carbon Fiber (Cost is not really an issue). Shaving weight and strength is my biggest concern, and fiberglass just does not work.

I don't know what you would be doing that would brake a quality fiberglass hood, but there is a thread on getting a CF hood from Japan https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=219587 .

Another option, you could have the steel hood acid dipped to thin up the metal and loose weight that way.

Thanks Axoid, that's what I am looking for! I just knew someone here would be in the know! If I can find out the weight I'll jump all over it.

if price is of no matter have one built. where are you located. i know of plenty of shops that will tackle the project. 3,000 for a hood is reduclous for a thirdgen in my eyes but if you don't care about money it can be done as soon as yesterday.

please tell me why the hell you would spnd such a ridiculouse amount on a hood that will only weigh 5-10 pounds lighter than a fiberglass one?

if you want to spend a huge amount on wieght reduction just get a fiberglass hood and lexan to replace the glass. you would probably lose twice as much for about the same price as it would cost to build a custom hood....

Unfortunately I live in Whitecourt, Alberta, Canada and there are no shops that could handle such a project. I dare say I would attemt to try it myself, but I leave bodywork alone and just stick to the mechanical/electrical stuff.

As to the price it's not that big of a deal. I have had the car since new and I don't mind spending some $$$ on it. I own my own company so cashfolw is not as big of an issue as it seems to some.

well it's a rather large project for one item only most settle for fiberglass. there are plenty of shops that will work with you here in michigan but i'm certain with shipping and the rest you'll be up there in money. if you would ever like to talk about it feel free to email me sometime. i had planned on doing something similar but in CF and decided not too since i got my fiberglass hood for as little as i did.

good luck.
