Antenna mounting under dash w/pics

Told a few people i would post pics of how my antenna was mounted under the dash pad so i had to do a little adjusting today so i got pics of it. I took real thin guage sheet metal and bent up a bracket to hold the antenna base and mounted it to the bracket in the center of the dash with teh mast facing towards the pass corner of the windshield

Bracket

Put soem foam tape on the windshield and throughout the mast to keep it off the metal

This is what i looks liek all one piece it goes just infront of the right speaker and into teh corner. After a little adjusting it sounds almost as good as the fender mount a tiny bit of static in like tunnels and crap but other than that its good cant wait to weld up the hoel and get her painted

AS for the reception it is great sounds as good if not better than before as the antenna wasnt plugged in right.(another misadventure of the last owner)

The fender still has the antenna base in it. I havent gotten a chance to weld up the hole yet so i figured i'd just leave the base in it so nothing gets into the hole. I'll post pics of the process of welding grinding and filling the hole. Thinking of waiting till late spring right before it goes in for paint so i dont have a mismatched paint spot there

Neat idea! I need to do something like that or just put a standard antenna back in. Seemed like a good idea at the time to shave the antenna.

your going to weld a patch in there right, not just fill it with weld?
when i shaved mine i cut a peice off of a junk fender that had the same contuor, and spot welded it in place. do not lay a continuous bead or you will warp the fender severly.

thanks

Oh yea thats what i was planning on doing your talking to a wicked welder here thats why i havent gotten around to ityet. On other cars i've done antennas and door handles i lay a a tack ever inch or so then go in the midlle of that then the middle of that and so on and it takes forever but keeps it from warpin.

you like doin things the hard way dont you

either way will work, but i found it easier and quicker to cut a patch and weld it in.

guess everyone has there own way of doing things.

ill post pics as soon as i can get to the computer there on.

thanks
anthony
