Well...we have a car seat for my little one, but when he sits in the back, his mother gets quite the leg cramp from having her seat all the way forward.

If any of you have a toddler, or had one, what kind of car seat did you have for them?

I'd like for my wife to be able to sit comfortably in the front, while my son is in the back.

He is about ready for a booster, and we would like to find one that rests low enough so his feet go below the front seat, or one with a thin back so he could sit back further in the seat.

Of course, if this were 20 years ago, he could just sit in the back with a seatbelt, but I want him to be safe, and the law requires a car seat, so which one would be the smallest fit for him?

this is the time you put you foot down and buy another car , keep the thirdgen for you and buy a family car.

 

Or, you could just put it behind the drivers seat

 

Ahhh...life was so much simpler back when we didn't know all the things that could hurt us....
If I recall...and it's a good 15 or more years now...we just used a forward facing car seat. But then...my wife is only 5'2, so she could pull the seat forward. Nowadays, though, we'd probably get arrested for putting an infant in the back of a 'vert Camaro....
BTW...with all the crap ya gotta haul around with a toddler, just how are ya doing it in a Camaro anyway? I would think the leg room is the least of your problems.

 

It's worse in Illinois, a law was just passed a couple months ago that children under the age of 8 (eight..no typo) have to be in child seats, no matter their weight or height or whether they sit in the front or back.

yep indiana is in the same boat, just passed a law for every child 7 and below so we got it a little better

 

Problem is...

this is the car in addition to our family car.
son is 2 1/2, so he must be in a seat.
Can't get a new wife...lifetime contract.
He already is in a front facing car seat.

but I decided to tighten the belt as far as it could go, so I gave the passenger another 2"...maybe this will work...or I'll have to start cutting the bottom off.

 

Wow i have the same problem. I have a 21/2 year old son also I have a 89 T/A that i drive in the summer I have the same problem with my boy in the backseat in his carseat. The front seat where my wife sits has to go forword and she gets uncofortable in the front seat. Whenever its me and my 2 boys age 8 and 2 and my wife go somewhere i have to beg her to take to T/A. I have tried to fugure out what to do about getting more room in the back seat and the only thing i can figure out is to get a smaller car seat somehow.Let me know what you figure out kd5boc so i can try it thx.

 

If he is already in a car seat couldn't you just remove the bottom of seat and just set teh carseat in the hump? I bet the height from the bottom of the car seat to juniors butt is probably about the same as the stock seat bottom. That should get you the space you need.

 

I think i found a solution to our problem I have folding rear seats in my car. What i did was remove the rear folding backrest. I noticed this gave about 3 more inches in rear seat room I put the car seat in and it gave alot more legroom. The only thing you might have to do is put a cushion underneath the carseat. Try this kd5 and let me know what you think?

 

I've also thought about this one...but other people ride as well. Kinda hard in the back, but for small trips it works. Besides, I decided to tighten down the seat as much a possible and I have about 2 more inches, LOL...my wife can sit comfortably now. hee hee
