Removing guage needles?

Removing guage needles?

To remove the guage needles....
do you pry (A) just the white part of the needle off?
or
do you pry (B) the black circle behind the white needle?

(B) the black circle behind the white needle, and might I suggest using a fork to pry it off with...I myself and others have done this and it has proved to be such a more useful tool than just for eating LoL
