I know it's either painted or powder coated....but...I wasn't sure what color it was. It almost has a "steel" look to it. I've tryed to PM him..but his mailbox is full.

I just fiished painting mine the same color as my car. When I was looking for paint at home depot, I noticed this new paitn I havent seen before. It Rustoleom hammered effect paint. The cap looked like it would be a killer paint for a cage in a dark colored car.

yep, nothing special just paint.....powdercoating would be a little overkill and difficult since my cage was built in the car. something that's prebuilt though i suppose would be ok.
mine is just a metallic silver really, just done to match the interior pretty much. i need to repaint it though as it recently got scratched up pretty good when i had it at the tunners.

Well...I went out and looked at alot of finishes....and I ended up with "Duplicolor Textured Graphite". It's a really dark grey....almost black...it's metallic and is textured. It looks really nice and it will look good on the bar. I also bought "Satin Clea"r as a final top coat. I'll post pictures when I start doing it. It's being shipped from California...should have it in about 3-4 weeks...

be very careful, clear on a textured surface will add shadows and "pools" if not done correctly. essentially looking like you painted the cage with a sponge.

well i'm not really sure why you're clearing a textured paint like that any how but regardless your correct. even and thin coats will be alright.

because the spray is gloss
gloss would look crappy...and I want a satin finish....
and spraying clear over gloss will manage that? clear will just help to protect and add depth more then anything. a satin look could possibly be achieved by sanding but going textured will ruin that idea. either way it's worth a shot though.

haha, but the clear I bought is "Satin Clear" so it's not just a clear....it's specifically a Satin clear. Anything that is sprayed will have a Satin appearence

I used an entire can of clear on my cage. I used a lot on the door bars because that will be a high traffic area. If it gets little scratches or dulls out, then I can just wetsand that little area and buff it out. I used a glossy clear and my cage is the same color as my car.

that's a good idea man since there is going to be alot of traffic through there. I didn't mean that gloss looks crappy...I just prefer a satin finish. You have any pictures of your cage man?
