Japanese ducted hood?

Ok the hood looks great but what happens if it rains do you get water in your engine? because I would love to have this hood but I live in Oregon and it rains a ton here.

well if you are willing to pay 2,000+ for the hood i'm going to assume you probably won't let the car see rain much. with that out of the way yes. any hood that is open rather its an ss style or otherwise gets the engine very dirty very fast.....

Here's a thread that was started. Doesn't look like it'll happen any time soon.

use common sense...you have a cowl hood....of course you won't get much water in it if your moving. it isn't like you have a hole in your hood like the above interest topic or an ss style with similar open areas.

Well, water getting in the intake isn't a big deal. That'll only help your engine. As for water getting on other parts, just isolate the air box to the scoop and you should be fine. If you have problems, just try to tighten the seal.

I still drive my car in the rain.........But I only spent $500 on my good......

Rain in the engine bay isn't good, but then again, I'm sure that duct doesn't have a funnel into your intake...

Although if you spend $2,000 on a car hood, your significant other, might introduce you to the rain sooner then expected......:lala:

From what I've heard, small amounts of water going in the intake don't really hurt; it can, in fact, help performance (!). What it could cause problems with is if you have a paper air filter.

The reason I heard that a little water in the intake actually helps is because water, when it goes into vapor form, lowers the boiling point for other substances, letting them vaporize faster. (Which is why volcanoes are more dangerous, i.e. explosive, if there's a lot of water vapor in the lava).

'Course, if your engine gets drowned in water, no combustion is going to happen period...

ok its like this

misted water in intake = GOOD VERRY GOOD
misted water in intake = more timming you can have
misted water in intake = no need for race fuel on high compression motors
misted water in intake = more power becuse the heads are cooler
misted water in intake = CARBON CLEANER
but now
water in crankcase = BAD VERRY BAD

but that is what we have rings for since the molocules of gas are smaller than that of water we shouldnt have any water seeping past the rings

but if its just sitting open to the rain and not running i would plug it off so there wouldnt be any standing water ontop thr pistons

so what did we learn here that misted water is a good thing as long as the motor is running

just my 2 cent worth of information

Why not? I've actually poured water from a cup into an engine, while it was running of course.

I too have heard of it working fine in a motor. I saw it on TV a few years back where someone with a squirt bottle misted it into an intake and the result they were looking for was a release of carbon off of the valves and such.

and then Dude2, driving a 25PSI GN with the water injection uses the distilled water to put a whooping on Dude1 who can only push 15PSI......

I whole heartedly agree that water in the engine BAY is bad. The trick is to isolate the reuseable/cleanable air filter off under the scoop. The run that to your intake. I also agree that you have to have a way for that water to drain out when you park, or a way to plug the hood.

totally different setup....putting cups of water in your intake is rediculous.

No it's not You ever seen an engine that had a blown headgasket? How nice and clean which ever cylinder had coolant in it was? You can get engines to run a bit better after doing the old water trick to clean out heavy carbon deposits.

Kandied, lets say a chevy had the classic worn valve seal prob... the chambers now have a good layer of carbon on them, and the car detonates... perhaps even runs a few chugs when the key is turned off..

run the motor, pour some water down it.... the steam breaks up the carbon, and blows it out the exhaust... the car runs better, no longer pings and shuts off when the key is off...

or lets say you just bolted your carb on and drove... its been rich for months but now you finally found someone to help you tune it... problem is, you have rich carbon deposits everywhere.... same thing, water gets it out.

it is a useful trick.. i mean, you COULD get GM top end cleaner.... it works the same way.... but why pay for that when its 80% water?!

as for calling a open hood water injection or calling it good, thats just stupid.

if you look closely at the hood, youll see it bends down, so a open cone element on the throttle body is covered.... but even if it wasnt, the water wouldnt HURT it..... (unless enough poured in to hydrolock the motor....) but it wouldnt be helpful either.
