rear window louvers
I bought an Iroc about a week ago that at some point had rear window louvers on it. When I picked it up, the louvers were in the back seat but there's a metal strip on the top of the window that the louvers attach to. Does anyone know how to remove this metal strip? I never plan on putting these back on but just in case I sell these at some point, I'd like to have all the hardware to install the thing again.
Thanks
Thanks

Here's the picture of the drivers side hinge. I was unable to get a good picture of the pin but it's to the left of the right bolt. Does anyone know the best way to push these pins into the hinge? I assume brute force isn't the best way since breaking the glass is a possibility.

if your interested in selling the louvers, im more than interested in buying them. and if you take the hatch off, it will make this job much easier

I'll give it a try again this weekend and see what happens. Be careful when re installing the glass bolts. Do not overtighten. I had a set of these same louvers back in 86 that I sold to a friend. I installed them for him. He hit a pothole and the rear window shattered. I guess I overtightened the bolts. Be careful of that.
As for removing them, use a box end wrench and just work it gradually. There should be no problem in loosening the bolts. As you said, pretty straight forward.
Not trying to hijack the thread, but I still have parts from a NEW factory set of louvers. I have the mounting hardware, ABS sides and most of the slats. I also have the 3rd brake light slats for a 91/92.

My louvers, which came off the second day of owning the car, did not mount that way.
Are those factory? ANyone know the RPO for the factory piece?

That set is not factory. My set that mounted that way came from a company that started with a K. I don't remember as it's been 18 years.
The set I have on my car now is a factory set. The part numbers have changed so I don't know the numbers. They had 2 different sets. The set from the 80's and the set for te 91/92. I believe the 91/92 sets are the only ones available today.
Unfortunately, the cragar set is the set that most people complain about as rattle boxes.

if a bunch of people want yours and you're having trouble removing the brackets, have the buyer that is willing to meet at your house come and take it. rather than possibly breaking the glass trying to remove it, just swap hatches, then switch the decklids.
So apparently the factory style louvers can be taken apart? That's what I'm gathering from one of the replies anyways...
If so, that'll make it easier to find a buyer for mine since it would cut shipping dramatically.

company starts w/ a k is kobel, I got the aluminum center piece from kobel. I need some abs sides though!!!! and I'd love to have that factory set you got on the blue camaro still got them up in seatille?
When I got my car they had the same strip, I lifted the hatch took a wrench 15 mm or 13 i think and loosened em up and then had to finish them off by hand only need to do the inner one that goes through the bracket, once done gotta scrap it off its glued on the window as well. I have a razor blade holder called a widget or sticker scraper worked great.

Kobel is the name of the company I had from years ago.
The GM part number for the 91/92 louvers is 12341693.
The factory set can be taken apart, but I wouldn't do it. The slats are glued to the ABS sides and are not very easy to put back together. Take it from me, I've put 2 factory sets together and it isn't easy to do alone.

without taking pictures of the factory ABS side pieces, the closest I could get now was a pic of my car with the louvers on.
You can see the edge of the ABS where the slats connect. I can get better pics tonight if needed.

factory's are like scott's they have the plastic ends but when mated to the center they apppear to be one piece and solid.
Whereas yours and mine have the center and the tape on plastic sides just like your pic you dded from sfxperformance. The molded plastic looks like scotts but generally have a bigger opening between the louvers so its easier to see out them. The older cragar have a very tight gap in between them like say a 1/2 to 3/4 inch or so very tight. I'll find some pics
