Installing Carpet

I just ordered dove grey passenger carpet from YearOne, and now I need help installing it. This will be my first carpet install and I was just wondering if there are any tricks or things I need to do to install it correctly. I tried a search, but turned up nothing. Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks.

Just follow the instructions to a t and get decent spray glue... pref. glue meant just for carpeting a car... a decent body store will have stuff... just don't go to AZ expecting to find it.

unfold the carpet and leave it in the sun on a nice hot day. this will help it take shape, and it will be softer making it much easier to work with. also, a heat gun helps too. just follow the instructions, take your time, and don't do any trimming until you're positive you have it right. i just did mine over the winter, on a scale of 1-10, my satisfaction would be at an 8. by the time everything is installed, you won't really notice, but it is not perfect. i have little patience, plus i was doing it in the winter without a heat gun. had i left it outside on a hot day, and took my time, i would've been much happier with the results.

I'm undertaking that very task today. A good adhesive is the 3m 77, It comes in an aerosol can. My carpet came from YearOne as well, and it seems to be very Pliable out of the box. You don't have to spray the entire floor with adhesive. I'm merely matching the factory spots, which there are 4, one in front of each seat, pretty much where your feet will be. I'll post pics later If I get it finished before I go to work

One more thing, just in case anyone is wondering: The Next Generation catalog from YearOne offers carpet in different years, I believe 82-84, 85-89, and 90-92. At first, I thought this was because of different color options, (which holds true for 82-84, and 85-89) but I noticed that the 85-89 and 90-92 sections offered the same colors. I came to find out that in 1990, GM slightly modified the Fbody Floor pans, nothing major, just a few subtle differences in the shape. The carpet they offer is cut to match these different floorboard patterns. If the 85-89 style is used in a 90-92 or vice versa, it will still fit, but there will be "bubbles" in a couple spots where the contours are different. Just thought you may wish to know.

Mine didn't come with any instructions. It's not hard enough to warrant instructions, but you do have to strip down your entire interior. Mine also required cutting holes to match for the seat belt bolts in the front, seat mounting bolts, console mounting bolts, etc, etc. I'll post pics later on today when I get some free time

My apologies, I bought mine from stockinteriors.com i believe it was, and it came with pretty detailed instructions, I would have thought they all would.

Car: candy blue 85 z28
Engine: 305 tpi LB9
Transmission: 700r4 crazy beefed up one
Axle/Gears: ones with teeth
step 1
remove seats door sills kick panels

step 2 collect loose change go buy a ice coffee

step 3 vacumm car

step 4 lay down carpet cross you fingers when you cut out the shifter

step 4 install parts from step one

really was a peice of cake when i did mine, cut shifter as last item, and do it it little steps you can;t go back if you cut to far, i cut x marks for my bolts, oh and the seat belt mounts were the hardest part the insulation wraps around the bolts, cut some insulation off from the back of the bolt area before you attach every thing.

When you make any cuts, ALWAYS and I repeat ALWAYS cut from the bottom. That way if you make a mistake you can always use duct tape or some other tape to put it back together and the top will still look fine. Also be sure to cut in small increments to check your measurements in case you make a mistake.

Thanks for all the info. The carpet came in today, but I ordered the wrong color. The interior had been completely redone by the previous owner, and I thought he had change the color to Dove Grey, but no. It was the original medium grey so I had to take it back and order another carpet
