GTA Hood Vents

Anyone know how to remove these things? They Earl Scheibed me at the body shop and painted the grilles. Also one of the grilles has broken loose and I need to repair it. Can't figure out how to remove the damn things though. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Pop the hood and look, you'll find some holes up front, should be 2 - 10 or 13mm thread cutting nuts holding the front of the grilles in, remove those, lift the front of the grille, pull torwards you and voilà...

How about the rear vents? Those are the ones that have me stuck. I can't figure out where they are mounted.

Yes ... the rear vents

They appear to be the bigger problem and that is the one that is broken, too.

The donor ones I got simply popped out by prying on the edge facing the edge of the hood. It had a small amount of adhesive on it and 2 spring type clips. There is a hole underneath the extractor so, maybe certain years have a thread cutting nut for a retainer as opposed to the clips... here's a bad pic of the clips...

Your in luck

I just happened to pull all the hood louvers off last night. As you can probably tell from the bottom louver I had to learn the hard way ho to pull the rear ones off. The two arrows are the set clips that hold the louver in and down....If done wrong they will break.
The louvers have two holes (In the middle of those two holes are the clips. Carefully with a very skinny object (The Skinnier the better) Standing beside the louver coming in from the OUTER edge slide between the hood and the louver in the middle of each holes and depress the two clips. Once they release as you raise the louver pull towards you to release the other side.

Hope this helps

Thanks! Exactly what I needed. I pulled mine out. The push tabs are on the sides nearest to the fenders for clarification. A credit card is too hard to do it and a blockbuster card is too flimsy. I used a grocery shopping card.

You my friend are a genius! My castco card worked like a charm on my 89 GTA! Thank you!

On a side note. When did the hood vents become $150 used for the set and not included with the hood?

I've been out of the thirdgen game for about 10 years. I am amazed at how much more everything costs as well as what they are worth now.

I suppose it would make a difference depending on who you are dealing with. I would expect that if they are attached to the hood, they come with it.
Are they really$150? I have a couple sets of these I would let go of for$75.... $150 seems like too much....
