new auto meter gauge cluster pics

here are some new pics of my 99% finished gauge cluster. I used all Auto Meter Ultra lites gauges. I retained the SES light, turn signals and high beam indicator.

pic may load a little big. I am trying to fix it if it does

Looks good other than that custom panel the gauges are sitting in. It just looks out of place, everything else on your car is tight though.

Cool man. What are those mounted on, fiberglass, plastic, sheetmetal? How did you go about hooking everything up? Did you retain your stock wiring or did you go with custom wiring? Are those electric or mech. guages? What sizes are they? Sorry for all the questions, but I have really been wanting to do something similar with mine... I have black Pro Comps though!!

the panel is a piece of 18 gauge metal. it is NOT the finshed product. I wil get around to a more finshed cleaned up pice over this winter. I cut those holes with a jig saw and did a lot of filing. I now have access to better machinery and will have a new piece made with a computer program. This will look a lot cleaner and I will end up having it sprayed semi gloss black at a local body shop. They owe me a few favors anyways. As for the gauges, the speedo and tach are 3 3/8. the rest are 2 1/16th. All gauges are electrical except for the vaccuum gauge. My oil pressure gauge is mounter in a custom gauge panel under my cowl. Pics of that will come this weekend. I used the orginal cluster frame that held all the bulbs and gauges. I just did a LOT of cutting and trimming to get these to fit in there. I reused the old cluster housing so that it would bolt right back in to the dash. I cut the plugs off the orginal harness, added a new connector and spliced the opposite end on the gauges. I found a harness connector from a 4th get Z in the bone yard. The harness connector has 10 wires in it so it helped it worked perfect. I used 2 of them. Now if I need too, I can just unbolt and un plug the whole cluster and remove it. I havent got the car running yet to see if its all set. my fingers are crossed though

I originally had all Phantom gauges and it just didnt look right with silver paint so I sold them and got the Ultra lites instead. I am glad I made the change. I did the same with the 3 gauges I have under my cowl.

I use too but it didnt match ther new theme of the car. I wanted a more aggressive race look and the 4thg en dash setup just didnt do anything for me. I sold it it and used the money to buy all these new gauges and just put my stock setup back in.

How do you guy it would look if I used a piece of aluminum instead of that black steel? something like the finish on the NASCAR dashes.

no idea on the cost of gauges. just grag a sumit book and start adding the gauges up. The speedo alone was $200.

I used to have an aluminum dash insert in my old Monte Carlo. I gave it that swirled pattern that finished it nicely. Looked really hot with the black faced Auto Meters. I think an aluminum insert could look equally nice with your exsisting setup. Good luck...
