Hood lifting funny

Ever since I've owned my camaro the hood has lifted up funny. The driver side hinge will hesitate and the hood will lift up lopsided untill it fully up. I've talked to a couple other F-body guys and they're cars seem to do this do. Does anybody else have this problem? Any ideas on fixing this?

Mine does that but only cause I have only 1 bolt holding the hing to the hood. The nut for the second one came lose inside and there is no way inside to get it. Some bozo didn't tac weld the nut well 18 years ago.

mine does the same wobble thingy both up and down.

Gumby they make an insert that you can put in an opening and then crimp to hold a new bolt. no idea what they are called but it is a threaded insert that you put on this crimping tool (threaded fits in bolt hole) then insert in a hole and crimp alot like a rivet fastener. and the the ridge created by crimping holds it to the metal. real nice item we use it on steel doors. first time i seen it it was at a concrete company they used them for repairs to the trucks, and mounting items in sheet metal that needed a bolt to hold it.

Its probably because your strut is dying. If you get a new one, it should pop right up with the other side. My passanger side did this, bent my hood doing it. So I got a new strut and everything is cookie. Just don't get a strut from a fiberglass hood, those are weaker and wont support the wieght of your steel one.

Try here and search for "rivet nut".

that the one i was thinking of. It always amazes me the amount of knowledge we all have together.

Knurled Rivet Nuts: The knurled body "grips" the surrounding material and expands during installation for extra resistance against spin and pull-out. They offer up to twice the grip range (depending on size) of standard rivet nuts. The extra-wide, low profile head covers oversized holes.

My old 83 used to do that, I would just wobble the hood up and down a little until it evened out. But with new struts, my problems were fixed. You think maybe they have the (weaker) fiberglass hood struts on there? Even the dealership can get parts wrong occassionally.

Well I guess we could isolate if it is the hinges or not. Just swap them to the other sides, and the hood should hesitate on the other side, maybe?

Hinges are side specific, you can't switch them. I actually have two sets and oddly enough they both do it on the driver's side.

Ok so I guess that I'm not alone in this. I've tried new struts and penatrating lube. But still nothing. Maybe I have to disassemble the hing and give is a good cleaning.

My hood also does this. I wonder if its related to the hood being out of alignment with the fenders. On the drivers side there is a large gap between the hood and the front fender, but on the passengers side there is basically no gap between the fender and the hood.

Does anyone else have this problem? I think this is probably related to the hood not lifting correctly.
