hatch metal trim part number(s)?

I did a search on the metal trim around the hatch glass, but the GM part number(s) were not listed in the various threads. Some posts mentioned the metal trim consists of two pieces; if so I need both part numbers--it's for an '88 Camaro.

Also, has anyone replaced the trim and have pics of the process or know of a tech article on the subject?

Many thanks in advance.

Are you referring to the metal edge that protects/lines the glass edge by chance ? If so, it's not really a feasible idea to replace it. If it's beyond restoration of normal rust treatment means, you're probably better off just replacing the whole hatch with one in better shape.
By metal edge I mean 'reveal moulding' which the p/n can be found in my sig under the 'camaro diagrams' -> hatch & components -> #6
Check using newgmparts.com for OEM.. it's your best bet. Even if found, it's adheared to the glass 100% along the edges. You stand a very good chance of cracking/breaking the hatch glass just trying to remove it.
Just my opinion though..

Yep ,good luck getting it off. The glass trim is bonded to the glass, and that is one place GM did it right, that stuff doesn't want to let go of the glass.
If by chance you do get it to let go, be sure to clean the glass throughly and install the new one with windshield adhesive and be sure to use the primer for the adhesive.

DANG!! That's steep pricing for what your getting, isn't it? Let's make sure we're talking about the same thing...the metal "Frame" if you will that surrounds the rear hatch glass? Boy, GM really outdid theirselves this time.

Mine has a coat of rust all the way around, too. If I can't dremel it well enough to restore, I guess I'll have to make a trip to the junkyard. I guess it is worth that much if you have a completely original in top shape, and you just want to keep the original hatch.

I am waiting for a call back from Safelite about replacing my hatch that blew out, and I did not save the frame.
That is a ridiculous price for a couple pieces of metal. They quoted me $289 for new glass, but they didn't know specifics on the molding, which is why they are calling me back.
If it's glued to the glass so well, how do they transfer the old one to the new glass without damaging it?
I have found some used hatches with scratched up glass that have the molding. I guess I should buy one of those for the trim.

When my brother had his 83 hatch replaced in the late 80's, it cost his insurance about $1300.00, part of that may have included fixing the paint chipped by flying glass. His blew out overnight in his garage. Apparently the bolts were torqued incorrectly.

dear ***, over $300 for a little metal trim piece is completely retarded. go to a junkyard and get an entire hatch in good condition including the deck lid and spoiler for maybe 10% the cost of buying both trim pieces new! It appears as if GM has someone specifically replicate any part when an order is received just to bend us over for hundreds of dollars on the smallest parts imaginable. I paid $500 for my Trans Am... lol. I'll stop ranting now.

Most yards around here will practically give you a rear hatch, just to get rid of them!
