Difficulty Mounting 4th gen T/A spolier
Hello fello third genners,
With my Trans Am I descided to replace the aerowing with a rear spoiler from a 2000 Trans Am. I read all the info here I could and set out to make it fit. Things are going well but there is one thing I can't figure out. If I move the spoiler into the position that looks "right" the outer two mount holes at the rear of the spoiler would end up being right where the glass is under the rear deck. I keep looking, figuring, and playing with the positioning but just don't see where I can mount the wing and still have it not hanging way off the back of the car. Anyone who has done this have any suggestions?
Thanks, Martin

Hi all,
The spoiler is off a real 2000 Trans Am. I got it because I have seen people here put them on thier cars and looking at the work that would have to be done it looked like a good mod. I know there is an aftermarket 4th gen "style" spoiler but I got this one for considerably less than the $400 one costs.
It seems if you move the spoiler forward enough for the side "arms" to kind of meet up with the rear glass and the forward point to start about where the one did on the aerospoiler it puts the rear mount hole about 3-4" past the glass but the glass actually continues under the rear deck metal. If I move it back far enough to clear the glass it looks like the spoiler will have to be narrowed and the side arms will need to be extended.
Anyone have any ideas? I think I just got an expensive shelf for the garage.
Thanks, Martin (TransDamnation)

Yeah, just make sure you center-punch it first. Supreme Member

I know there are bits to drill through glass. It was the idea of bolting a spoiler to the glass that I was making fun of. It was my way of saying "that's a bad idea" without actually flaming you.

Well I appreciate you not actually flaming me!
I mean for him to mount the spoiler not over the glass..but over the decklid, where the glass goes under it a few inches. I agree that mounting on glass is a bad idea.

Automotive glass is almost impossible to cut without breaking. You won't ever see me near the glass on my car with any type of drill bit.

Well, after taking a break from it for a couple days I went out and re-evaluated the situation. Looks like I'll have to move it back whatever I do so it looks like I'll be cutting the spoiler to take about an inch of width out. If I run the mount bolts just behind where the glass mounts the side arms won't seem too short. I'll keep you posted as to the results.
Thanks, Martin
