I was just fooling around with the car today, and noticed that there was some water STANDING in the pit in the far rear of the car. Granted we had a NASTY rain storm roll thru a day ago, but still... water standing above the carpet line can't be good for a car.

Is this normal? Any suggestions to figure out what is happening? The weather stripping around the window is not in bad shape IMO.

If the weatherstripping is good, it is probably the sealer that seals the hatch to your rear window. To reseal it, you will hafta take the plastic panel off underneath. Then you have something like eight 13mm bolts to take off, and a couple screws. Then you can use a knife to remove the glass from the hatch and you can reseal it.

I am actually in the process of doing this now, since I am replacing the rear window.

Could easily be the case. Many people shoot silicone on weather stripping to keep it supple, but forget/neglect that particular piece. I had a similiar problem with leaking. It might be worthwhile to experiment a bit before jumping in whole hog--my leak was the weather stripping on the driver's side rear corner.

the weather strippin glue stuff under the deck lid might need replaceing, or your hatch might not be bolted all the way> check to see if bolts are nice and tight. if none of those are the problem then chances are your hatch weather strippin is gone or u got a rust hole.

 

Its usually the area between the hatch glass and the decklid. Just take take off the interior panel, unbolt it, and pull it loose...you may have to pry a little, but be careful. Reseal it with urethane sealer, like used for auto glass. This is a good time to fix the "overbite" on most third gen hatches, since you're having to take it loose anyway.
