89 Iroc front air deflector

I just got a new front air deflector (part#14083929) but I have no clue how it goes on. Does anyone have a pic of this ? It is for my sons car and the original one is gone. The car is an '89 Iroc Z-28. I have an exploded view but it doesn't show how it is mounted.

There should be 6 mounting holes for it just under the radiator and condenser on the radiator support. You're going to have to jack the car up to see the holes. Hope this helps!

Benm109 is right - there are 6 (I believe) holes for mounting the air dam on an '89 IROC-Z. What you need is 6 of the following:

They're called 'push screws' if I recall correctly. Somebody please step up and beat me down with a Rustang bumper if I'm giving this guy incorrect info; I've already screwed up once by telling someone else that they needed a bazillion push screws to hold the front lower valance to the bumper cover (when they actually needed a bazillion 10mm bolts)!

PS - Just to be a nitpicker, there was no 'IROC-Z28' for the '88-'90 models - the 'IROC-Z' was its own model, and the 'Z28' returned for the '91 model year

Ok ok , it's an Iroc-Z you nitpicker. I looked under the frontend and I could not see anywhere that this thing would mount. It kinda looks like something is missing that this thing would mount on. I'll take more time to look at it after work today if it isn't raining.

If it's possible take some pictures so we can see, if you can't find the mounting holes.

Interesting, the dash emblem on my 88 says Z28 with IROC Z just underneath in smaller letters.

All IROC-Z Camaros will have this dash plaque; my '89 has the same thing. A Z28 without the IROC-Z package will have a dash plaque that reads 'Z28'. Some of these may say 'Z28 Crossfire Injection' or 'Z28 Tuned Port Injection' (there may be a couple of more, but I'm not that familiar with the others).

I found the fact that the Z28 model was dropped in favor of the IROC-Z from '88-'90 to be interesting information; if I'd known this several years ago when I bought my '89, I could've had it for next-to-nothing and simply replaced the blown transmission instead of shelling out $2500 after somebody else fixed it. The car had 16" IROC-Z wheels but it looked like a plain Z28 from a distance, so I passed it by. Live and learn, I guess

I'll look under my car tomorrow morning and then I'll respond to this again if you haven't posted already. I hope I'm right about the plastic push screws which hold the air dam on; I'm going to feel pretty dumb if not since I already made that mistake with the lower front valance

One would think that this stuff would be fresh in my head after taking the entire front clip (and everything underneath) off a couple of weeks ago. Good thing I took lots of pictures for when I put it back together!

Pics would be nice. I'd take some but Denver is currently getting rain.

We have a winner!

This man is correct - it attaches with six 10mm bolts directly under the radiator. Look on your car and I'm sure that you'll find these 6 holes in that location. Let us know what you see.

Make sure you have the right kind of air dam! There are two kinds, the camaro ones, and the firebird ones.

The Firebird ones are slightly less effective on camaros due to their shorter height, and are difficult to fit on due to their pointed design.

I don't even know if the camaro ones will fit on firebirds, but that's really irrelevant.

Man, I keep wanting to attach everything with those push screws for some reason...maybe because the last few things I removed from the front and the rear WERE attached with push screws

Coincidentally, I have an air dam up for grabs now - I ordered a new one from the dealer this afternoon

On an unrelated note, the air filter cover (the "clam shell") has been discontinued, or I'd have ordered one of those as well

I'm sure it's the right one. I got the part number off a Camaro only parts CD. I got the part from gmpartsdirect.com. I'll try to get a pic tonight after work, I've been too busy the past few days. As for the mounting bolts, I think those are 6mm bolts that have a 10mm hex head.

I crawled under the car and found the mounting holes this weekend. The deflector is mounted and now the car should run cooler.

If what I've heard and read on the boards is correct, you should have substantially cooler readings. Let us know what results you get

It's my sons car. He said it use to run around 230ºF and both rad fans always on. Now he says it hits 180ºF and only one fan cycles off/on.
