4th Gen. Console

I see a lot of 3rd Gen cars with the 4th Gen console. Is installing a 3th Gen console in a 3rd Gen car very difficult or take very much work.

I'm sort of confused. Are you asking how hard it is to install something that you already have installed? Or are you conteplating taking it out and putting in another one? Basically, what's wrong with the one you have now?

Either way, the hard part is maneuvering around the e-brake. 2 bolts held that down for me. There's a few bolts that hold the console in place...it's not hard.

Installing it isn't hard, but making it look good in a Camaro can be a task. I've seen only a couple that look good. Tons that look OK.

As for a firebird, I've heard it's just bolt in and go.. but I haven't put one in a firebird so I don't know .

If u are putting an automatic forth gen console in a 3rd Gen Firebird u have to slide the shifter towards the drivers seat atleast 2 inches, i am in the process right now, just trying to figure out where to mount my power window switches.

It'll bolt right into your car like it was meant to be there, just bolt it in with the two bolts in the glove box in the center and your done. here's a pic of it in my 90 Formula.

this is one of the easiest mods, especially since you have a manual,

here is what my setup looked like awhile back,

takes a little custom fabbing for the for the automatic. move the shifter back, and some dremeling. manual is bolt on. for a camaro, you need the firebird HVAC and radio console.

mine was a PITA, cause im soo picky. i think it fits better than any ive seen, and i made a trick bracket to hide the hole in the top out of some plastic. if i could find the pics, id show you.
all in all its not hard, just depends on how custom you wanna get, or just bolt it in and have it look like crap. i used poly fill from an old pillow around my floorpan to build it out to match the console. id say it looks pretty factory after some tweaking.

dont bleed on the carpet. and keep band-aids handy.
