I want to take out all of the air pump and A/C equipment and clean up my engine bay.

Can I remove the big silver canister and all of the aluminum piping, or will it open a hole into my heater core or cause some other kind of problem?

 

Rip that a/c crap out man, dont forget about the condenser mounted in front of the radiator, that piece ways as much as the rest of the setup. I was amazed how easy all that crap came out, and there is another big piece inside the heater box. If you take the top off the box it just slides out through the top.

 

If you do rip all that stuff out, and you are still using your stock serpentine setup you might find this thread usefull in finishing the job off right.

I did the opposite and installed factory A/C. Anyway, you can remove the "silver thing" but I personally wouldn't go any further into the firewall. If you take off the top plastic piece behind the silver canister, you can remove more stuff, but then the cowl will be open to the engine compartment and it will mess up your heating system, or create an opening for dirt/leaves to get into your HVAC system.

And yes, remove the piping and the condenser in front of your rad.

To totally remove it, head to a junkyard and get a non A/C car heater box for the firewall. There's lots of cars in Wpg without A/C in the yards!

LOL, thats about 5 years old actually, im gonna try and clean those harnesses up this winter then make a fiberglass lower piece and probably re-make the top plate as well, its really starting to show its age. post a pic of yours if you got one.
