Hows it going, I finally was able to register to this message board and join you guys. I think all the members so far are awesome. I f you could just read my story and give me some info that would be awesome.

I have a story about my car that I crashed. When i was younger my parents had to buy a new car, we tested out all sorts of cars and summed it up to a 91 Camaro RS or a blue Mustang. My brother wanted the Mustang because it was manufactured by ford and BigFoot monster truck was a ford. I wanted my parents to choose this car because,......................Cmon its a Camaro. Well we had this car until i was 16. This car then got passed down to me . I mean I shined and took care of this car even when i was younger because i loved it, but when i got it i was soo phsyced.
Well after a few months after having my license i was driving home after it had rained and been windy. (leaves are slippery)
I came from a turn and the rear kicked out, fishtailed and i hit a wall with my rear end and totaled the car (frame, rearend).

To me this was a pretty tragic event. IT SUCKED. Well the cop asked me where i wanted to have it towed and who to tow it. I had no clue so i said that i did not know. He called someone and they came quickly. This guy was polite and told us that he could not tow it to our house because it was too risky with the gas tank and all. He told us that he would not charge us for storage and that the car was totaled. He told my parents he could get rid of it somehow. I could not think straight considering the shock of the accident and him telling us we had to get what we wanted out of the car with a day limit. He said in one day, his buddy would come to take all his junk cars to the junk yard. He said he came every now and then.

Well my parents gave him the keys and title (i dont know why i let them but i thought they knew what they were doing.) I did not visit the place until my friend had to get a sticker for his car. This was about 6 months later and my goddamn car was still there, just sitting. Then i noticed the cop that was there was the towguys brother. They ****ing stole my car.

IF YOU HAVE ANY INFORMATION ABOUT ANY LEGAL WAY I CAN GET MY CAMARO BACK PLEASE TELL ME

I have another 91 RS but i could still use my old parts and for Sentimental value. Well im done my talking. cya later guys

fellow MA resident..sort of

hey man you live in a town like 5 min from where i used to live..i lived in new bedford. i'm coming home next summer; maybe we can hook up i might have my camaro with me

ok, onto your problem. that was really messed up as to what happened. however, not to sound like a *****, but you and your parents are complete morons for letting that guy take the title for that car. Keys as well, for that matter, as I can bet that car wouldn't start or be safe to start after that kind of wreck. In MA, the way I recall it being is, as long as you have that title, that car is legally YOURS. *** himself couldn't take it. true, it can be stolen and you still have the title, etc., but that little paper basically proves YOU own the car, no one else. Legally, he couldn't sell it or nothing without that paper.

However, I just came up with a small little loophole that may help you out. When you transfer the title over to the next owner, there are some signatures required on the back of the title. If those signatures aren't there, then it is POSSIBLE to take custody of your car back. Go down to the local courthouse and check. Get another cop to go there with you and check that title. Legally, he still has to have it or have applied for a new one to keep that car. However, he can't get a new title unless heh as the old one to turn in, and if he filed for a lost one, they do all sorts of checking before issuing it.

Also, have that cop bring a search warrant. It may not be needed, but it just might help. Also, try and get a pic of the corrupt cop and the yard owner together in the yard or whatever. Email me if you got more questions; I'll try and help you out as best I can.

P.S.-where is that place your car at located?

Kevin

If you or your parents have not recieve any insurance money, then you still own the car and the parts.

He could always claim that your parents gave the car to him for free when they gave him the title, but it may not hold up in court.

The tow truck driver does not determine whether it is totaled or not. Your insurance adjuster doeas. (Even though, from the looks of it, it probably is.)

Find out first if your parents got any insurance money for it.

just prove that the cop and the tow truck guy are in something together, and internal affairs in the police department will sort it out.

I know here in AZ you can file for a hearing with MVD (Motor Vehicle Dept). At the hearing you state your case (like going to court) and the ownership of the car will be determined by MVD.

i was going to read up on some laws and stuff but i just....dont know.
Thats awesome that you lived in new bedford, i moved to acushnet a few years ago after living in new bedford

You said that the tow yard guy said you had to get what you wanted for the car in one day and then you skip to your parents giving the title to him. Did they get any money or other compensation for the car when they gave him the title? If so, you just sold a car.

And about selling the car without a signed title; Its easy for a mechanic or tow yard operator to sell the car. If at the time of towing the cop filed a tow report (CHP180) and placed the value at $300 or less, then the Tow operator can dispose of the car in 15 days by scrapping it after having the local law enforcement sign a "junk slip," unless your insurance or you file a claim. If the value is over $300 then they must wait 30 days and then they can scrap or sell it. Thats how it works in here in California anyway.

In addition, even if you asked for the car back they are going to charge you a storage fee even though they said they wouldn't. I'll bet you have nothing in writing. It doesn't matter how unnerved or upset or ignorent or confused you and your parents were or the fact that you had no place to put the car, it doesn't even matter that the tow guy is the cops brother, theres nothing illegal about that. It might be unethical what the cop did but not illegal. If you gave them the title its long gone.

If you want the car back go ask them for it and see what you can work out with them. You might be surprised. I wish you luck.

Yea the tow yard guy told us that we had to get what we wanted from the car in one day because there was someone comming to take some of his cars to the junk yard. Which didnt sound like a lie at the time, its just my car is still there. No i did not give them any compensation for the car. I didnt say there was anything illegal, i was just saying how its wierd that my town seems like one big union and everybody is related somehow. I asked them a while ago if they would even sell me my own parts and he said he wouldnt do that. I have another 91 camaro but i just need some parts and stuff so its not so much of a big deal but you know id rather have that car back, now that i can. i wouldnt wanna pay no ****ing 3000 for storage, ya know

The dude got into an accident a while ago so the whole front end is purple. hahha it looks cool tho. Im thinking of getting it painted a type of like red wine kinda. Sorta like the Member 87Tpi. Its called Fire Red. i guess the color is from Pontiac.
Hey, your car looks pretty damn good. Have you gotten it painted and those rims installed.

If the title wasn't signed over to the guy by the legal owner (you or your parents), the car is still legally yours no matter who is in possession of the title. Take him to court.

Hey on my current camaro, i found my passenger side floor was wet. I know the driver side has a rust hole, under the body. I do not know how to fix the hole because its weak and splitting. But now i feel the passenger side is wet. It hadnt rained and it wasnt the t tops, im thinking that my heater is leaking. Anyone else have this problem? Or what do i do to fix it.

hey man its easy to see if it is your heater core. just smell the wet spots or soak some up in a paper towel...if it's greenish and smells like coolant, then it could possibly be your core. same thing happened with me..one day, dry floor. next day, soaked floor. heater core crapped out. i got my replacement at autozone in new bedford, on mt. pleasant street. it was like $20 or $30 bucks.

The heater core is the MOST FUN thing to replace on a Camaro. It will really show how much you like your car, and you will learn alot of new language...

O man, do you mean fun as complicated, haha. Do you think that it is the problem and is it common? I also want to know what i can do to the hole in the drivers side floor. Its not really on the floor inside but under the car.
