Rear spoiler?

I have an 86 Trans Am. A buddy of mine gave me a spoiler off of his trashed 84 firebird. I want to put his spoiler on my car, should there be a problem? or will it be as easy as removing the old one, and bolting the new one on?

Any help would be appreciated.

if it's the same style spoiler..it should bolt right up..if not, you'll have to patch the old holes, and drill new ones.

They're different, but the spoiler that's on now, it's got these 3 clips that go down each side of the back glass. I could probably just take the clips off, but i dont want to start something that i wont be able to finish. Should there be a problem?

Thanks anyway. I think i'll just go ahead an try to make it fit. I'll just be careful when taking the old one off, so i can put it back on if the other one doesnt fit.

Thanks

the clips on the side are for the wraparound spoiler. With the new pedistal spoiler, they will be useless and exposed. The clips are welded to the hatch trim, so you'll have to cut them off if you don't want them visible. As for installing the new spoiler, the mounting holes are in different locations for the pedistal style spoiler. Unless you also get the decklid from your friend, you'll have to drill new holes for the spoiler and have the old holes patched and filled.

Tom, I'll have to school you in the ways of the firebird so you can answer these questions in the future!

I'll probably just keep the old one on. Do you know if i would be able to buy a GTA spoiler and have it fit right? It wraps around like the one i have now, but the one i have now has a big crack in it, so i dont want it.
